Are the Chiefs in trouble?

Still a great team but Their window is closing. They need to win next year before Mahomes contract really kicks in and they fall down to the rest of the pack. That ol is a problem. Mahomes is so good that they will continue making playoffs but all the people worrying about Mahomes winning 6 sbs can relax, his career probably will be half as long as tom’s the way Reid uses him sometimes. The Seahawks comparison is pretty spot on imo.

Not to mention Mahomes sells Allstate insurance, Head and Shoulders shampoo, Helzberg diamonds, Nebraska Furniture Mart, groceries. I expect a Mahomes Toyota dealership to pop up any day now.
Yes hes quite the pitchman now.

It is extremely difficult to keep a great team together for a long time with a salary cap. It can result in a lack of depth and injuries like they had last night can end up dooming a season. They are certainly a top contender for the next couple years - we'll see what happens after that.

not only is the window closing, but losses like this make it easier for free agents to bail - they don't seem to have that culture built where players dig in, take the team deal and come back to try and win another - you're going to see some instead figure they won one here in KC, time to get paid - that failure last night was in all facets of the game - offense, defense, ST, coaching - everything was bad

Their OL will get fixed for next year, as guys get healthy. The biggest issue with the cap isn't the offensive skill players, it is the defense. They just won't have money to spend on it.

This is not a Seattle situation. Seattle entered SB49 fully healthy with all units executing at a high level. They lost the game because their coach got too cute and called the worst possible play at the worst possible time. The loss fractured the locker room because players lost confidence in their coach. Their best offensive player (at the time) got injured then quit on the team, then injuries decimated their biggest defensive strength.

The Chiefs weren't competitive last night because they were playing a JV squad at offensive line. Mahomes covered a total of 497 yards scrambling on a bum toe trying to escape the Tampa pass rush. The Giants were brutal to Brady during Super Bowl 46, but this game might have been the worst collective performance of an offensive line that I have ever witnessed.

The Chiefs are fine. They are tight against the cap, but their roster seems to be built using the Rams blueprint - load the roster with high end game breaking talent, and try to draft really well in the mid rounds. It has worked so far.

It makes me appreciate Brady even more.

He never shamelessly pimped himself out like Mahomes. I still believe that Giselle put him up to the Uggs boots thing.
No question Gis has shaped his brand.

Yea I really can't think of a pathetically cheesy ad he has done. The James Bond mattress one was borderline but it had a touch of class to it.

You don't see Tom hocking pizzas, insurance or rental car companies.

Hes very brand-conscience- as he should be.

The Pats should have beaten KC this year with their awful qb's substitute. Teams now know how to beat them, not that many teams have the players, but those that do will be able to. Having an amazing qb on a rookie contract makes it much easier to win. KC doesn't have that anymore, it will be much more difficult for them to win going forward. As far as the O-line injuries go, injuries happen every season in the nfl. If all your $$$ are going to a few players, you don't have money to spend on good backups you are going to be in trouble once those injuries occur.

How did that defense look last night? Also at some point quality Olinemen need to be paid.

When your QB is going to have a caphit of $45million it's going to be hard.

In 2022 Mahomes, hill and kelce are going to account for 57million cap hit. In 2023 his cap hit is 43million

Eric Fisher tore his Achilles on January 25, so he's not going to be ready for the start of next season. They're better off cutting him and paying the injury protection benefit rather than his full salary. Mitchell Schwartz injured his back 3.5 months ago and didn't play again, so I don't think they can count on him returning at full health either. They probably need to put considerable resources into that position this offseason.

Well, it showed how pedestrian Mahomes currently is when he doesn't have wiiiiiide open guys to throw to. I don't believe in most "blueprint" games, but this one felt legit.

Also, their aura of invincibility that made other teams beat themselves is gone.

it’s only a blue print game if you have Devin White, Lavonte David, and amazing DL, and 4 pretty good defensive backs. But that doesn’t matter because the Chiefs offense will be worse next year and that patch work defense will be too.

I fell in love with Brady (and the sport) in SB 42 after watching him get harassed all night and still putting us in a position to win. Mahomes had a tough night but **** he tried his heart out. Some of the hate for him is disappointing- it’s not his fault that people were proclaiming him ahead of Brady as the MJ of football.

He is a lot like Brady - he will do anything for his team to win - not a stat peddler like Rogers and Wilson.

I’m going to enjoy watching him play for the next 10 years - chiefs need to protect him. He is never going to over take Brady - but I have every faith that he will retire in the top 10 of all time

I agree that you need the personnel, but it's not like TB is the only team with the personnel. And in the playoffs, the odds of running up against one or more of them is pretty high. I'm not saying the Chiefs are dead, not at all. I'm saying that they're going to have a much tougher time staying THE ELITE, NIGH UNBEATABLE CHIEFS.

Yes, KC is in trouble.

Losing the super bowl is worse than not going at all. These losses haunt a team.
Pats v Rams II says hello.

Yes, I am aware that the Pats aren't the same as everyone else. And yes, I think they are in trouble. Reid < Belichick. Mahomes is a special talent, but he cannot do everything. Someone said their husband couldn't throw and catch at the same time once. Kinda the same thing. So, I agree with you, but I am not counting the kid out.

No way he equals Brady tho. That talk can stop.

That throw he made nearly parallel to the ground after getting walloped should have been caught in the end zone and was the best throw I have ever seen.

It would be fun to discover some of the pitches tb12 has received to rep a company....

If Reid is still coaching and Mahomes is healthy, the Chiefs will have a long and great run.

They had a lot of things working against them last night, primarily a team that was primed for the run and as talented as any team I've seen in recent decades. If the Bucs can hold onto those key FAs and don't get injury-ripped next year, they could be right back there. That ream is loaded with O weapons, and their front 6 on D is incredible.
