Words on things I watched, read & heard

I've been watching some old games and when I watched the NFCCG I did a double-take. Was that really Marcedes Lewis? The guy who gashed the Patriots in the AFC Divisional Round in '07 playing for the Jaguars? Now why hasn't he been spending his last couple of seasons in Foxboro?

Also, I never want to hear another word about what a poor draft choice Laurence Maroney was. His running in the Divisional Round and in the Championship Game against San Diego was exceptional and made the difference (certainly in the Chargers game when Brady was intercepted three times). That he didn't reproduce those performances later has to be down to injuries. That's life in the NFL. Here are links to the games.

Can confirm and similar to Sony in that regard. People forget but we leaned in him those last few games. 120 rushing with TD and 2 rec 40 yards vs Jags and another 120 TD vs Chargers.

Nice throwback Mike! That was such a rollercoaster of a season. We were slicing & dicing teams up 75% of the year before a tough last stretch (Phila, Balt - Thanks Rex! , NYG) and went from bombing teams to leaning on the rushing attack. LM definitely earned some respect those last few games.

Dear Jon,

“Least amount of sacks”? You skipped step 1. Learn basic English. Tweet stuff about football is step 2.

Sincerely,

Looks like Shaq Barrett & JPP will see a Lot of double-team blocking on passing plays vs the Queefs...

Same with Wino: Get 4 hands on him and it's over.
How about the young guys? Young, Burns, Sweat, Landry, Chaisson all look like serious players. Can't wait for next week

Yep, if the Big Fix weren't already in motion, this season should've seen 8 teams each in the POs and the Faiders should've been that 8th seed.

Almost forgot: Fluck KVN, and Fluck Fo.

Goff - Stafford trade.
Pretty unprecedented and kinda crazy. In terms of dead money, huge contracts and two former #1 overall picks. This never happened before.

Rams wanted out of Goff's contract so bad they traded him for an older QB that has never won a division and is 0-3 in playoff games. I actually like Stafford and wanted him here but two 1st is literally going all in. We've heard the term and it's been thrown around here but this is the real deal. The Rams are betting on SB or bust. They're betting that their defense will translate which is quite the gamble nowadays. Defense doesn't really translate from year to year. We know that firsthand. Schedules & styles change, injuries happen, players regress, coaches leave.
That said Stafford and McVay should be money together. They have a lot of weapons and can always add another. McVay clearly had enough of Goff and knew he'd had taken him as far as he could. Defenses/situations could force him out of PA. Goff was a really good prospect but never progressed much at all. From being able to just read what's in front of him to his delivery/mechanics. Nothing really improved he just executed really well and clicked with McVay.

The other side of this is the loss of all the draft picks. Look it's true a lot of draft picks don't work out but punting on a half decade of 1st round picks isn't a smart strategy.
1)If you're not hitting on picks, cheap picks, you're at risk of getting old and expensive real quick.
2)Where is your depth when injuries occur?
3)You don't have to draft prospects in round one. You can trade down or up. Yes you can trade the for vets but you're not forced into making a pick if you don't want to.

And I'm sorry, this is tough to hear, I know bc I get told it once and a while but the prospects don't draft themselves. No one is forcing these prospects-picks on these teams. It's bad evaluation. It's not easy, you'll never be perfect but punting on the draft all together isn't it. Every year there are 60-75 really good players from each draft. No reason to pass on first dibs for half a decade.

I believe the Lions can get out of Goff's contract after next year with little to no hit. A few extra 1st round picks and an excuse to truly start from scratch? Why not? It's not like the team has been any good at any point over the last half century.
The funny thing is Campbell just got done talking about how tough a team he wants to build. Goff isn't the guy you think about when it comes to toughness. Mental or physical and I say that respect. He's an NFL QB, obviously has taken quite a few hits and punishment but the fact remains he's not the guy Campbell was talking about. That'll be interesting to monitor but I'm thinking the Lions will be bad for a few years and really don't care about Goff or the short term. Get extra picks, dump a bunch of money over the next few years and again really start clean. If you're going to do it, do it right.

Random thought: Damn, the AFCW is loaded with TE talent.
