I'd really like to see a source for this, because I haven't seen anybody talking about that, ever.I'm referring to what happens if they keep him. He has a clause that locks him in if they want to keep him. He'll get a big contract from them.
It was. Just because a stupid team did something very stupid the facts don't change.I can't believe people were arguing that a #1 was too steep a price for Stafford.
How about 3 #1s?
That's what the Rams paid because Goff + a 3rd for sure is worth a #1.
They can use the signing bonus maneuver the Pats used with Brady. Without changing his total compensation, they can lower Stafford's 2021 cap hit to about $7M.The Lions clearly got the better end of this trade from a value perspective. Right now they are 13M over the cap with this move. And they will need to drop that without any easy options. No matter how they plan to extend Stafford I don't see him playing for much less than his 20M dollar mark this year. They will need to get creative.
Goff's contract made it neccessary. LA probably feels like Goff is the thing holding them back and they want more consistency at the QB position. What an awful deal for the Rams. Give up a younger QB for an older QB in a lateral move. I’m a UGA fan btw. Neither of these teams will do sh*t.
This is one of those rare trades that benefits neither team. The Rams do like making a splash though. I will give them that.
He's not. He's far less consistent and Stafford routinely plays at a higher level with worse talent. Also it's a well known secret that McVay basically holds Goff's hand throughout the game so if they are getting rid of him it basically means McVay is telling the front office that Goff isn't going to develop beyond what he currently is at and they need an upgrade to take the ext stepGoff even with a bum thumb is equal to Stafford so I don't get this trade.
Detroit just went 5-11 and downgraded at QB and assumed a huge contract. They wanted assets to rebuild and the Rams felt like they were being held back and Goff's contract was an albatrossAbsolutely, some of those picks were less about Stafford and more about Goff's contract. It's just hard to imagine any team would value some cap relief at one or more first round picks.
McVay must be on some of that WSB yolo fomoMcVay playing chess while the league plays checkers...
Here's the situation. Goff had a stupid cap hit for a team that already has cap issues regardless. The Rams think Goff is holding them back and that McVay is just saving his ass by scripting plays and reading defenses for him. There is no doubt in my mind that McVay after 4 years decided that Goff wasn't going to improve and that they were going to lose games because he wasn't able to be competent. The Rams have not used a first round pick since they drafted Stafford. They view those as better trade capital. To an extent they are right. Only like 11-12 first round draft picks become Pro Bowlers, less All Pro level. So if you can guarantee a proven talent with that pick, might as well go for it in a trade. In this case, they also needed to unload Goff's cap it. So they sweetened the deal. They weren't going to use those picks anyways, they would have packaged them for someone else. Since they feel like they need a QB to get over the hump, why not?McVay must be on some of that WSB yolo fomo
They couldn't offload that entire contract. You're telling me it's a good deal for the Rams to give up all these picks and still have to pay more than $20M for Goff in 2021?Detroit just went 5-11 and downgraded at QB and assumed a huge contract. They wanted assets to rebuild and the Rams felt like they were being held back and Goff's contract was an albatross
Two first round picks that most likely will be in the high 20s. Whoop de doo. And a garbage QB.I would say 2 1st round picks and a bridge QB for a QB they wanted to get rid of were beneficial to the Lions.
