Idle thoughts - "When a win is worse than a loss" edition.

Have you seen that division lately?
Yeah and it sucks. They are like 5-20-1 out of the division with 40% of the wins coming against the 2-8-1 Bengals.

Great stuff Ken. I like your point about the defense being able to stop some of the dynamic QBs. They used to really give NE trouble, but this year they held guys like Lamar Jackson and Kyler Murray in check, and largely kept Patrick Mahomes under control too. Only Deshaun Watson really gave them trouble. That’s definitely an interesting and promising change. I have to wonder if perhaps practicing against Cam daily has better prepared them to face those types of players.

I watched a bit of the KC game and my first impression watching the Buc D was " Hill wouldn't be allowed to run around free down the field and he wouldn't be getting single coverage". Brady must have had the same thought as he watched that debacle of a first half. Admittedly Hill has had some good games and big plays against the Pats, but he had to work a LOT harder to produce a lot less than he did against Tampa. Watching how Tampa defended him was shameful

Im hoping the defense turned a corner. There were 2 situations that were absolute must stops and normally situations id have considered hopeless this year. The sequence before half and the cardinals last drive where one more first down ices the game. Both stops were unbelievable and gave me hope. We obviously have to be better on offense, i know the ceiling isnt very high on either side but with complimentary football we can win. We are finally getting big plays from the return game.

The thing is that I don't know if any of it is true or not. But it is introspective and makes for a more interesting discussion than the other stuff you hear which is just describing and whining about the symptoms (e.g. accuracy, touch, missing reads).
Having a legitimate excuse for Cam's faults doesn't make those faults any less important. It's the same as excusing Tom's faults because of his age. IOW, the problems still exist.

The NFCE has a combined record of 14-29-1 with only 5 wins and a tie outside their division. They have 2 wins and a tie vs 2-9-1 Cincy and wins vs 5-6 SF, 5-6 Minny and 4-7 Atlanta.
They're the worst division in the history of the 4 team divisions.
Their top two teams, the Giants and Skins, each only have 4 wins with 3 against the rest of their pathetic division and 1 against Cincy, yet the mediots have them climbing the rankings like they're legitimate threats.
The NFC is pathetic and I can't wait for one of them to get a home playoff game with a 6-10 record and knock two or three better teams, like Da Bears, 49ers, Cards or Minny out of the playoffs.

The point I was making that you apparently missed is that it is more interesting to talk about causes than symptoms.

Stuff like short passes bouncing off the turf or batted passes are symptoms and talking much about them is a waste of time for everyone involved.

I didn't miss anything, like I didn't miss your shot at fans with a different viewpoint by calling them whiners. The symptoms are what we know and see, and those are showing up on the field. What's most interesting to me, and most fans probably, is the team's record. I couldn't care less about the causes, which come across more as excuses.

The beautiful thing is that there is no need to take shots because people of your silk are masters at revealing themselves with absolute nonsense like that.

Can't say it's not entertaining, though. So please tell me more about the magic world you live in where context doesn't matter.

Scoreboard matters but that doesn't mean context doesn't. Even Bill saw a lot of good things happen in that ass smashing we took in KC in 2014. And as we know now - he wasn't imagining those things either.

Yep. I keep coming back to this. I don't think BB liked that 2009 team; they weren't coachable and they didn't compete when things got tough. He seems to like this team. That means something. Hopefully it means serious contention in the future.

So, no one in the NFCE has beaten ANY team with a winning record!

Yup. And combined they only have 10 out of 50 games remaining vs teams that have winning records right now, and that number could go down.
Dal - Bal
NG - Sea, Ariz, Clev, Bal
Phi - GB, NO, Ariz
Ws - Pitt, Sea
It's remarkable how weak that division has become. It's been a clear advantage to the AFCN and NFCW that match up against them
