I don’t think he’s the answer, because NE isn’t winning the SB regardless. So, I’d rather pass at that $$$.

I have seen a lot of this sentiment for various trade ideas in the last few weeks but most of those players (e.g. OBJ, Thomas, blah..) would come on deals that go beyond this season. For those situations I wouldn't see this as a "one piece away" trade but a chess piece to built around in the next 2-3 years which especially now with Edelman seemingly fading wouldn't necessarily be a bad idea.

Now for various cap related reasons (they barely save anything this year and a 20M charge hits them next year) I don't think Thomas will leave NO and they will have to find about 80M in cap space somewhere else until the new league year starts. But nobody can deny that with COVID lowering the salary cap over the next two years and out flexibility in terms of money this is a unprecedented chance to acquire some otherwise more expensive players without the risk of guaranteed money.

I mean I'd still be fine with a rental for a pick swap or late round asset but that is a totally different type of deal.

There are a lot of factors this year that unusual. Cam is on a one year deal. The cap is going down, which is going to really impact certain teams like NO horrifically. They are screwed. The Pats are in some type of a rebuild, which, after 20 years with Brady, had to happen. There is so much uncertainty with the small sample size of the 2020 season and we could be contending for a division or be out of it in as little as two weeks from today. What is certain is that we're going to have significant cap flexibility for 2021 and that there are going to be more than a few teams that are going to have to make cap moves at the start of the 2021 business year that they really don't want to make. Unlike last year, I'd like the Pats to retain all of their draft picks for 2021 and to pick up some quality players that otherwise wouldn't be on the market in a normal year. DT and WR are of interest in this scenario. This "rebuild" can happen quickly.

I actually wouldn’t mind HOU TE Daniel Fells or NYJ TE Chris Herndon (if he can stay healthy) and a WR (Theilen, OBJ, Ross, Fuller etc..) by the deadline.

I see no reason to assume that whoever they will get from the draft will be of higher quality or of more impact in the coming two years than players that might be available in trades. With those there is much less guess work involved and also considerably less time required to get them "game ready". You pay more money but start at a point with much more information and less uncertainty.

For whatever reason at some point people started overvaluing the draft and every other way to build your team became almost something lesser. I don't really get why. The goal is to have a sustainable and competitive team that is not too top heavy but has redundancies at various spots to account for the high probability of injuries. How we get there is irrelevant.

I get what your saying here and I suppose it comes down to the actual cost of the trade. In season trades often don't offer good value. Maybe I'm just jaded by the Sanu trade. That overpay completely altered our 2020 draft.

it’s time to reshape the team trade for Thomas or OBJ Julio is too old.
Trade for Njoku and Engram, add Ross to add much needed speed. Trade Gilmore away and Pay Jackson make him the number 1. Trade Thuney since he wants a fortune. We need to hit on a penetrating D tackle trade.
I wouldn’t be against trading away Michel and or Harry. It’s clear they are what they are mediocre talent way overdrafted.

Engram has dropsy. Engram can’t block. Perfect for your fantasy but not for real football.

Another interesting name mentioned at ED besides Dunlap is Alabama product Ryan Anderson...Don't know how much I'd pay for him though...
Alabama guy, linked to us in draft, similar to Jennings

Fells and Thielen if cheap. Rest are to injury prone for me. Ross also always an underachieving pro. Thielen really good but he is 30, haven't seen him this year so don't know how much he has left. I just don't want old and injured.

Still don't get the OBJ craze. He may be better than what we have but he made his rep on circus catches. Agree with trading Thuney and Gilmore only because we have serviceable backups but only for number 1's, maybe a 2&3 for Thuney. Have only seen Harris once so wait for the end of the season on Michel and again only because we would have a proven backup. I wish they would play Harry as a move TE ala Hernandez and see how that would work.

Completely ? How ?

Screw those low percentage circus catches.

What I like about him is that he can be used inside and outside, understands how to set up defenders, has good hands and is only 27 with a reasonable contract that goes right until he hits the wrong side of 30. He'd fit exactly into the type of offense we are running.

as far as Michel he is what he is we are seeing runningbacks in the 5th or lower be be as good or out perform Michel if your drafting a back in the first the poster boy is Edwards Hellaire.

I saw that Thielen is being shopped. He's the one I'd take out of all the players you mentioned.

OBJ just suffered a knee injury. It's not looking good for him.

Ross won't help anything as he drops too many. Fuller might be decent, but he's got a really limited route tree.

Dallas needs oline and a QB. Trade thuney, hoyer, and a 6th to Dallas for Gallup and a 1st

I would be interested in trading for Anderson, if all the medicals checked out and unfortunately, I don’t see that happening.
