I don’t think he’s the answer, because NE isn’t winning the SB regardless. So, I’d rather pass at that $$$.
I have seen a lot of this sentiment for various trade ideas in the last few weeks but most of those players (e.g. OBJ, Thomas, blah..) would come on deals that go beyond this season. For those situations I wouldn't see this as a "one piece away" trade but a chess piece to built around in the next 2-3 years which especially now with Edelman seemingly fading wouldn't necessarily be a bad idea.
Now for various cap related reasons (they barely save anything this year and a 20M charge hits them next year) I don't think Thomas will leave NO and they will have to find about 80M in cap space somewhere else until the new league year starts. But nobody can deny that with COVID lowering the salary cap over the next two years and out flexibility in terms of money this is a unprecedented chance to acquire some otherwise more expensive players without the risk of guaranteed money.
I mean I'd still be fine with a rental for a pick swap or late round asset but that is a totally different type of deal.
