Ah, I understand where you are coming from now. I agree for the most part but when your starting QB is 40 and you know you are not extending him and he has 3 years left on his deal, you have to draft the next guy. He did when Brady was age 37 and got Jimmy so I don't understand why he did not do it again after he traded Jimmy in 2017. This is why we are in the mess we are in now with no young guy to develop and looking at potentially having to pay Cam around $30 mil a year to keep him beyond this year.
I agree, but don't think we're in a mess personally. I never expected us to have a Pro Bowl QB after Brady. Few teams are that lucky. Cam Newton is the new improved Vinny T, and BB knows he can win with that. We are in a good place.
All that being said, do not forget that the Patriots always claimed they had a first round grade on Stidham, McConnell, Mallet, & Garopolo (there may be others who I'm forgetting). Before touting our grade drafting over the Bills, we have to say we also have a track record. I will admit the Patriots would have never drafted Losman or EJ Manuel, I'm not so sure we wouldn't spent #1s on the likes of Rob Johnson.
