OT: Official 2020 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

I disagree. Brady's deep ball in 2007 was the best in the game. He wasn't just throwing to Moss either but also Stallworth, Welker and Gaffney. That season was the best season by any QB I have ever seen. He led comebacks in 3 of the 16 wins to preserve the perfect regular season capped off with the comeback vs the ferocious Giants D.

I don't think it is a matter of coaching but weapons. Brady is a high percentage thrower that is what has made him the winningest QB in NFL history. He is not going to throw low percentages. With Tampa, the long ball is such high percentage because the receivers are either open or able to make the difficult catch or draw DPI. That is the difference IMO.
I've been saying for years that you need a speedy WR that can track and adjust to a ball thrown 50 yards downfield.

I've watched QBs in skills competitions, with no pads on, with no pass rush in their face, and they are not able to get that ball in a 2 or 3 yard window downfield.

Most of them just put it up and expect their receivers to grab the ball within that window,

Ok, so I can't respond to all of this because I'm really not saying that deep talent doesn't matter, or Brady's deep ball wasn't good in 2007. Or that he couldn't get comeback wins. Or that there is something "lesser" about short throws. ect. ect. What I'm saying is that Tampa Bay isn't even close to the 2007 Patriots, and Brady is hitting guys in stride & dropping it in the bucket way, way better than usual. 2007? Yes, Brady was great, but there were more than a few deep pass completions that were noticeably off-target & Moss had to bail out Brady. There were also a few times, on incomplete passes, where Randy Moss had to play defensive-back and swat the ball down to prevent the INT (and even intentionally get the PI) just to prevent Brady's deep pass from getting picked. I'm not seeing any of this in Tampa Bay. Brady's deep ball is way more consistent in accuracy. Mike Evans isn't Randy Moss, he wasn't even 100%. So, it's not just talent. It's coaching, too. That's from Arian's emphasis on the deep ball; the amount of time spent in practice on this, the play-design, etc. Everyone knows that's Arians style; and despite its flaws, it really does work when it comes developing the deep game. Put that same Bucs offense in NE, without Arians, and there's no way Brady throws that deep, that often, that well, with that much touch...

OT: Tyrod Taylor is not getting his job back.

That ESPN clip with Hasselbeck was pretty good for BSPN but..those two bubbleheads in the chairs constantly squawking about "where's Gronk???" really ruin the entire segment. Am I being sexist? I'd like to think not when idiocy on display is called just that, IDIOCY, no matter what the sex of the offenders are...(to wit, Marshall Faulk.)

I see what you are saying now. I do agree Arians has helped him with the deep ball for sure and the play design as well. That is one of the reasons I was happy to see him go to Tampa. Brady said this is the first time in 30 years since he has been playing football that he has an offensive minded head coach. I do think this Tampa offense is more talented than the 2007 Pats but perhaps we are just splitting hairs. Both are insanely talented but Arians is a great offensive coach and play designer.

If I remember the play correctly:

On the touchdown to Howard, Thomas beat his coverage up the right seam, while Gronk went up the left seam and beat his coverage. The reason Brady went to Howard on the play is that a safety was over top of Gronk, not Howard.

So I'll try this question against since I didn't get a response the first time, or maybe I missed it. Tompa fans are especially welcome to answer.

What do you think is a successful season for Brady this year? Super Bowl win? NFC Championship win? Breaking records? Doing better than his old team?

I think anything short of making the NFC Championship game would be a failed season. It's all set up for him there to do at least that, so he should.
Depending on injuries if he has Evans and Godwin for the majority of the year, I agree with a NFCCG or a failed season

It's OK. It's not as if Buffalo's gotten off to a good start, or anything problematic like that.
Good news is, our next 4 games are Broncos, 49ers, Bills, Jets. If we knock off Buffalo, that gets us to 5-3 if we only drop a game to 49ers. Best case scenario is we win all 4 and hit 6-2. I think its doable but 5-3 wouldn't be too bad after 8 games

To think the Belichick haters actually believed (hoped?) we'd be the worst team in the league without Brady. LMAO

Tom Brady is dead to me but damn you see what my boy did w/the Bucs today?

If the legend grows, that's okay too.

we're gonna look like it with hoyer under center... joke but i'm expecting a 2 score loss, maybe even losing by 17-20 points. KC 34. NE 14-20?

Hoyer is what he is. We're gonna find out how good the defense really is this year.

This thread is about to get really ugly if the Chiefs do what I think they will to the Pats. Get ready for some new folks who “don’t care at all” but will scream and cry about this thread existing.
This was always going to happen though. Unless you honestly were dumb enough to think 3MVP’s, 6 SB comebacks (2 being the two largest ever), being top 2 in passing stats, and most wins was just some mirage because Bill Belichick’s is just that good, then you had to know Brady was going to eventually click with the weapons he had in Tampa. Godwin isn’t even there, and Evans is clearly banged up, and he’s starting to find other playmakers. This is going to be a dangerous team by the end of the year.

Meanwhile, our offense wasn’t much to ride home about last year and while Cam’s running ability has injected some life into it, I don’t think it can win a shoot out against a competent team. Meanwhile our defense took a huge hit due to the opt outs and some mainstays that left. This is a rebuild. At nest it’s like 2001 where it’s good enough you hope for flawless execution down the stretch and some luck. But it’s not some powerhouse team. This might be the best Buffalo team in 20 years and Allen is playing lights out. We will have a war trying to win this division, meanwhile Brady is 100% in control of his division right now while his main competition looks like he’s fading towards retirement.

In a couple weeks we might be talking about Brady taking the TD record from Brees

IMO four possible things can occur tomorrow night....

The defense is designed to take Kelce out of the game...after which we lose by 14+ points

The defense is designed to contain KC's wideouts...after which we lose by 14+ points

Hoyer completely craps the sheets...after which KC stomps NE to the tune of 38+ points

Finally, an eleventh hour reprieve from the league governors calling off the "game" entirely...

I'll take option A but I PRAY it's option D

Defense has seemed to be what would constitute above average thus far. Maybe that's being generous. They certainly can't match up with KC. The Chiefs will likely drop 40 on us. This could be very ugly.

I think our only hope of avoiding embarrassment is a positive COVID test tomorrow.

I've been firm in my belief that Tom is still a top 5 QB over the past few years. People who said he was washed weren't paying attention. Brady had showed no physical deterioration. It was about getting stuck with two straight years of terrible receivers (minus Edelman). When surrounded with competent players he can work his magic. **** triple post

Okay let’s just call a spade a spade....

With Cam out

KC- 0% chance we win
Den- 75% chance we win because they are awful

I see Denver, the two Jets games, Houston and Miami as potential automatic wins. That gets us to 7 wins. Those are 3 of the dirt worst teams in the league. I see KC, Baltimore, Rams away as near guaranteed losses.

That’s gets us to 7-4 with 5 games that are up in the air.

San Fran
Bills twice
Cardinals
Chargers

These games decide our season.

Buffalo is 4-0. If we get lucky, TEN, KC, BAL, SEA, PIT, and LAC can give them losses. But aside from us, those are the only potential losses on their schedule and we are all but guaranteed to get 4 at a minimum.

The division is winnable as its very possible Buffalo goes 8-8 losing to all of them and getting swept by us. But realistically I see something more like a split with us and a 3-3 with that schedule.

So winning the division likely means 13-3 imo this year or winning a 12-4 tie.

That means we have almost no margin for error.

It’s all set up for him to at least make the NFC Championship? Nice stretch. They were 9-7 last year and missed the playoffs. It wasn’t all set up for him to just waltz into the NFC Championship game.

I didn’t want to say that, but yes. If Hoyer goes out there, we are getting massacred
