OT: Official 2020 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

Silly me, I thought that the topic was supposed to be clearly articulated in the OP and the thread title...neither of which says the thread is exclusively about Brady and Gronk. But those are all minor details...
Silly me for thinking an adult would or could have deductive reasoning to see the thread title and know the only reason there'd be a thread like this on the board would be specifically because Tom Brady is there. But it's you, so I see my expectations were set too high.

Why don't you follow your own advice and stop engaging with that fool.

That is a bummer. At least it is only a mild pull and he did not tear it. Bucs have Chargers and Bears so pretty decent schedule although Bears on the short week could be tough.

Looks like a few posters have taken the torch from sb and now are trying their hand at being the embarrassing "hE's Not a pAtriOt AnYmoRe!" hardo fans. Good to see our little buddy sb getting some rest.

Posts like this are why this thread should be in the NFL forum, not the Patriots forum.

If Brady was playing with Braxton Berrios, he wouldn't do as well. If Brady plays with Godwin, he will do better. Hoping Brady has weapons is hoping Brady plays well. It all comes down to the same thing: wanting Brady to play well.

The only reason I specifically responded to that one is because it goes back to yesterday where I felt he was specifically insinuating I was a liar and questioning the validity of the thread itself.

That's really only marginally better than his overall record...

Yep...it’s just a logical fallacy that’s been pushed for years. Similar to the fact that one when die comes up 6, the other die is really good at avoiding another 6.

Anyone who believes that has obviously never seen me at the craps table.

So it wasn't clear to you that a thread title that references both Tom and Gronk in it, is about Tom and Gronk?

I am enjoying the thread. Just skip the non-sense and don't respond to the people try to disrupt. Lots of good information. Like I said pages back, I would never join a Bucs forum so I am happy to have this single thread here to catch the news on Tampa while Brady is playing for them.

Jamel Dean had about as bad of a start to his career as you can have. Missing the first half of the season due to injuries, Dean got his first chance to play in week 9 vs Seattle and was absolutely torched all day long. He was targeted 14 times by Wilson and allowed 10 of those passes to be complete for 155 yards and 3 touchdowns. In a game the Buccaneers lost 40-34 in overtime, the young corner was one of the main reasons for the loss.

A debut that bad can easily destroy a young players confidence, something that always lingers in the back of their mind and prevents them from ever reaching their potential. One of the biggest reasons I think Jamel is a future star in the NFL is he posses the elite mentality needed to be a successful cornerback at the highest level. 1 week after getting shredded in Seattle, Dean took the field against Arizona and only allowed 1 completion for -2 yards on 5 targets and grabbed his first career interception, an interception late in the 4th quarter that helped the Buccaneers to a 30-27 victory.

After his horrid debut game, from week 10-17 Dean got targeted 38 times and only allowed 42% of those passes to be completed for a total of 162 yards and zero touchdowns while also grabbing 2 interceptions. For comparison, Patriots CB Stephon Gilmore in that same time frame was targeted 44 times, allowing 47.5% of those passes to be completed for 242 yards and 0 touchdowns while grabbing 3 interceptions.

Now, I am not at all saying Dean is even close to being the player Gilmore is, as he is one of if not the best corners in the NFL right now, but that just shows how well Dean played to close out the season. I do, however, think Dean could develop into being an elite player in the mold of Stephon Gilmore one day, the 2 cornerbacks actually size up very similarly.

Thought we should post a few more interesting Tampa Bay facts for all you fans.

Yup - rent free.

Pats and Bucs both are likely 0-3 if Brady stayed here. Both teams are 2-1 with the way things are now. Works for me.

Must be recess or did you sneak on the forum during third period Algebra?

Are they? In the Patriots 2 wins Cam Newton is averaging 160 yards passing. He has as many interceptions as TDs. His rating is 89.7 verse 88 for Brady last year.

If Tom Brady is QB they are still probably 2-1 and we are talking about if Tom Brady is too old to play instead of talking about signing Newton to $100m contract.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers briefly had an open spot on their 16-man practice squad, but now they have a new pass-catcher in the mix.
On Wednesday, the Buccaneers signed second-year wide receiver Isaac Whitney to their practice squad. He filled the spot created when the San Francisco 49ers signed tight end Daniel Helm off that unit to their practice squad on Tuesday.

Whitney played in two games as a rookie for the Oakland Raiders in 2017 after being signed as an undrafted free agent out of USC. He split that season between the Raiders' practice squad and active roster, then went back to training camp with Oakland the next summer. After being waived in the final roster cuts in 2018 he ended up on the Houston Texans' practice squad for most of that season.

After landing on injured reserve in 2019, Whitney returned to training camp with the Texans again this summer but was waived on September 5.
The added depth at receiver could be useful to a Buccaneers squad that has recently suffered some injuries at the position. Justin Watson missed Tampa Bay's win in Denver last Sunday due to a shoulder injury and Chris Godwin left that game early with a hamstring ailment.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have started the 2020 NFL season at 2-1. The offense has been mediocre through two contests, but the defense has been the bright spot for the team.

The young players like Devin White and Sean Murphy-Bunting have taken massive strides after already-impressive rookie seasons, and the defense will be in good hands for the foreseeable future.

Unfortunately for Tampa Bay defensively, Sean Murphy-Bunting went down during the game with the Denver Broncos, and a return before this weekend’s matchup with the Chargers is not a given. If SMB is unable to play, the Buccaneer secondary has taken a significant hit, but it will allow other players the chance to step up.

The apparent replacement for SMB is Mike Edwards, who played an excellent game in relief with an interception, but the Bucs could also bring in other players for depth.

One choice for this additional depth spot could be undrafted free agent Parnell Motley, one of the Buccaneers’ top performers during training camp.

Motley had a great body of work while playing for Oklahoma, but his size and athleticism raised some concerns regarding his viability at the NFL level, but Motley put those worries to rest early on with his camp performance.

Motley played so well during camp that it seems likely that he is the fourth corner on the depth chart from a playing standpoint. Ryan Smith is currently listed in this role due to his special teams prowess, but Motley could be the better coverage option.

If the Buccaneers are without Murphy-Bunting, this could be the perfect opportunity to see what Motley can do in a live-fire situation. The Bucs don’t have a great spot for Motley to play now, but having four consistent coverage corners could take this defense to the next level even if an injury occurs.

We would have kept the Brady offense which was a complete failure last year and any Bradyite who says differently is in denial. Not really much for upgrades on offense. No new WRs. Not one thing about his season last year suggests he would be better this year if he stayed. None. Nada.

I could definitely see them losing both the Miami and Oakland games and a complete annihilation this weekend. Maybe 1 win if they were lucky. With the schedule I think the ceiling for a 43 year old Brady’s offense really isn’t high at all if he stayed here.

Cam has been great for us but I don’t want an extension for Cam yet. Need a bigger sample size than 3 games.
