Rosen makes passes few QBs can make.

The problem is how many bad ones there are.

There is Newton not finishing a season healthy since 2015 and COVID going on. I think there is value this year in keeping 3.
Last year we got cute and lost the #3

From afar I always read he was a bit of a jerk and didn't have a great lockerroom presence.

I tried to search for his likeability factor but had no luck.

There had been reports that Rosen has an attitude because he doesn't fit the prototype NFL QB.

“I’ve talked to some people,” Lombardi said. “He might like humanitarian work more than he likes football, I don’t know. Nothing wrong with that, but I don’t where his values really lie.”

It doesn’t end there. An Arizona sports radio host questioned whether teams will shy away from Rosen because it has been suggested that he’s an atheist. Rosen’s upbringing has raised eyebrows because his father was considered for U.S. surgeon general and his mother is a former magazine editor.

So, people think he's a bad guy because he does too much humanitarian work and isn't religious?

That's what I've heard Rosen claims.

I think he's a bad guy because he's one of the most inconsistent QBs I've watched. Even pitted up against Fitzy.

I always heard football is not the most important thing in Rosen’s life!

in an nfl locker room, almost everybody in there lives, eats and sleeps football.

this makes a guy like Rosen seem not as committed or focused and can cause friction. Bb generally pulls the plug on anything that causes friction in the locker room.

The 2001 team was named preseason by Joel Buschbaum -- the original draftnik, and a brilliant guy -- as the least talented team in the NFL.
After the Bledsoe injury, the lead writer for SI, the legendary Dr. Z, who came up with the concept of power ratings, rated the Patriots dead last. He said "I don't know that they have the talent with which to win a game".

We have a decent offensive line and hopefully a qb that can make some plays.

on defense, we have the best secondary in the league.

we do have some holes in the front seven and in the skill positions.

I think bb can work winders with that.
I doubt this. With no reliable wide receivers or tight ends to catch the ball
(except Edelman).

I am likely confusing Dr Z with Joel Buschbaum in this case. Thanks for the correction!

I was an early fan of Joel's work and a subscriber to his newsletter, at least as early as 1973, which was mimeographed, for those of you who might remember that once ubiquitous true blue pre-xerox copying technology! I wish I had saved those early issues, but I recall parts of his glowing pre-draft writeup of Stanley Morgan, "quicker than instant coffee!". Damn I miss Stanley Morgan -- greatest WR ever drafted by the Pats -- and Joel, the man who pioneered crowdsourced analysis of the NFL draft.

Re: Rosen: Some NFL folk questioned whether Carson Wentz could succeed because he's a ginger.

Are teams more hesitant to bring new players in because of COVID, especially with no game tape?

Why increase the exposure for someone who is likely fringe on your roster?

Really so Hakeem Butler went unclaimed are you kidding me he has to have a higher ceiling than Meyers.
Praying their is a new receiver or 2 coming over via trade

His ceiling for this season is most probably not much higher than Meyers.

Jury seems to still be out on that one.

Interesting (yet pretty obvious) observations from Tom Curran:
Did you wonder why there wasn’t a single player released by the team on Saturday that seemed like the kind of player other teams would jump on? That’s because the roster – thanks in part to opt-outs but also their subpar drafting over the past few years – isn’t loaded to the gills with talent. No Cre’Von LeBlancs or Kamu Grugier-Hills – players who will go on to start when they couldn’t make the 53 here – went over the side Saturday.
And:
The 2020 Patriots are going to have to get by on guts, guile and game plans. Their most important defensive player is, in my mind, Ja’Whaun Bentley. The reason? There is NOBODY behind the third-year linebacker to run the front-seven. The opt out of Donta Hightower and the free agent departures of Jamie Collins, Kyle Van Noy and Elandon Roberts have the Patriots in a position where they are relying on the inexperienced and unproven.
Ref: Curran: Do Pats fans have the stomach for rebuild?
Seems like there's gonna be a lot of butt-clenching moments in the 2020-1 season for us.

The average number of waiver claims was 41 on the Sunday after the rosters were reduced to 53. This year it was 17. There are no games to gauge player ability, so fewer claims.

The 49ers, Ravens, Bucs and Cowboys all had no one claimed as far as I can tell.
