As far as I can tell, Jackson never even was a jackass. He got arrested for something he didn't do, beat the case, and his original college still wouldn't take him back. Sounds like he got screwed to me.

I'm just happy he's a Patriot. Glad his issues were resolved.

So, this Byrd guy (5’9” and 178 lbs) is going to beat out Gunner, Meyers, and the dude who the thread is about, Jeff Thomas? This is also assuming that they’re going to keep 5 WRs + Slater, which is hardly a sure thing. I hope this isn’t the case.

What are you saying, we only keep 4 or 6 + Slater? No way they keep only 4. Not in this day and age.

We are all making predictions. Some predict UDFA's. Some predict those who were here last year, with expected improvement. And some predict those who have had some success in this league as a #4 WR and PR.

That being said, I think that Meyers has a very good chance at beating out Lee for the 5th spot, if there is one.

I think which young receiver can pass thru waivers to the PS is a factor.

If Hastings and Thomas equally impress in preseason I feel Thomas would be claimed by another team.

This has happened so many times. Belichick's policy is clear. If a player isn't good enough to be on our 53, then we wish the player well on another team's 53. The obvious exceptions are injured players, and players drafted in the first four rounds.

I'm sure you all have a long list of UDFA's that we drafted and then went on to be stars for another team. So what. The patriots don't keep players, especially marginal ones, to precent him from having a career elsewhere.

There were lots of WR injuries and we had no TE's. Surely, Gunner should have had lots of receptions. Did he? [Answer: Gunner had 2 receptions]

What are you saying, we only keep 4 or 6 + Slater? No way they keep only 4. Not in this day and age.

Pretty sure they’ve started the season with 4 + Slater before, so it’s a possibility, especially if a guy like Thomas is on the PS. But you’re missing the bigger point that they’re highly unlikely to keep ALL of the guys like Edelman, Byrd, Gunner, Thomas etc due to the similarity in size. Some of them are going to have to go and we all know which one is a guaranteed lock.

We do this almost every year. We are NOT carrying 6 WR's plus Slater on the 53. This is especially true with the new PS rules.

Last year, the TE were not much of a threat in the passing game.

Guess how many receivers we had with more than 32 receptions (2 per game). There was Edelman, and then there was ?

The 5th and 6th receivers rarely have many receptions.

Why so much fuss about the 5th WR. Did the #5 last year have more than 1 catch per game? and that with no TE's.

Then he/Belichick rights the ship, the team begins to turn it around, but due to the schedule as well as their youth, they don't appear to be a team the will go deep in the playoffs. Do you trade Edelman to a contender at the deadline? He's unlikely to be resigned anyway and he might garner a late 1st/second round pick. Say what you want, but even in a perfect world the Pats probably aren't built to challenge for the Super Bowl next year, but with the cap space and the uncertainty going into 2021 along with a bunch of youth they may be poised to reload very quickly. If they have a promising wideout on the practice squad like Hastings who could slide into Edelmans' place and begin the transition, that might be something that Bill the Evil Genius would consider.

Most for Edelman would be a second from TB.
More than likely a third is what most teams would part with
