Jakob Johnson also maybe.Cool post. To help, here is an overview of the RPO offense taking over college by storm. I think Belichick is both using parts of RPO for his own offense as well as planning how to defend it
Positionless offense and the 21 spread
(Emphasis added)He is prepping New England's defense to dominate some of the AFC's strongest offenses as the six-time Super Bowl champions try to maintain their high level of success into a third decade.
He is just one way to beef up the Patriots' run defense while not sacrificing anything in pass coverage.
Again, that safety/linebacker hybrid can help provide speed on the edge, making tackles in space, while at the same time not sacrificing anything in the passing game.
Abilities like the above are essential impossibilities for all but the most freakish of the already freakish athletes. And it's lines like those which make this sort of article not worth reading.
Chung, for example, cannot do that.
Who can?
Patrick Chung has won 3 Superbowls by the way
.
Any hope for Jojuan Williams in this role?Bill has had a love affair with safety/LB hybrids for years now. They haven’t always panned out but I believe in Dugger and Phillips looks good too. He may faint on the field if he manages to get two on the field at once (three, even, if you want to count Chung.
Chung is/was fine in coverage 15yds and in. You'd be best served not posting about anything football-relatedAbilities like the above are essential impossibilities for all but the most freakish of the already freakish athletes. Absolutely...as long as he doesn't smoke the hooch on gamedaysAny hope for Jojuan Williams in this role?
They emphasized D over O last year.PS... there have been lots of stories about the newly "freed" Tom Brady, but this year's amicable-enough divorce frees Bill Belichick too. He's been in a gilded cage for 20 years, always able to fully own the team... because TFB lets him. That's not a dis, that just is. Brady didn't cross him or challenge him... but it's not like BB could say "you know what? This year we're going to have a strong ground game and emphasize defense over offense." He began to move that direction, but you saw how many flyers he took trying to turn up new toys for TFB last year (and then by trying to keep trading up + some bad luck, ended up out of ammo entirely at WR.)
