Last time we saw Cam he threw the ball about as far and with as much velocity as my grandmother and he was barely more mobile than her too.....

1) $25M of cap room is readily available through trading Thuney, and restructuring Gilmore, Mason and Cannon.

2) McCourty's 2020 cap is $5.4M. Newton's could be anywhere between $5M and $10M.

Not a guarantee whatsoever but don't forget the AB grievance that should be decided this offseason.

Personally, I think that the patriots would better off if we signed Newton, or if we traded for Rosen, or if we signed Dalton after he is cut.

In the UK we have a different betting system...does this mean it is likely?

Right now it costs $190 to win $100 on Newton signing with the Pats.

That is almost 2 to 1 in favor of him signing with the Pats.

"Well, Cam obviously has had a good NFL career down there in Carolina. He's given us a big challenge whenever we've faced him. A lot of factors go into it, but we thought bringing him was what's best for the football team. We want to delay Stid's development as much as possible, create a meaningless bridge year where we have to reshape our offense around a running quarterback who can no longer run. We weren't worried about the physical decline or concussion issues and we definitely don't care about the pattern of selfishness and lack of humility. We're used to aging, angsty former MVPs who have their own brands and media companies enduring team-first mentorship role even with an immature receiving core. We'll see how it goes once he gets here." - Belichick, never

Newton has basically no leverage. If he wants to play football this year and not just backup someone, the Patriots are the only chance left. Patriots would have to make space but it's probably a lot less than they would have had to make back in March.

I think it's a possibility.

Belichick on Cam in 2017: "I think when you’re talking about mobile quarterbacks, guys that are tough to handle, tackle, can throw, run, make good decisions — I mean, I would put Newton at the top of the list."

His career stats against the Patriots are a 72% completion percentage, 9 yards per attempt, 6 TDs to 1 INT, and over 100 yards rushing with a TD. If Cam Newton had played the Patriots every game of his career he would already be the greatest quarterback of all time.

Fans remain irrationally exuberant about Stidham's chances to emerge as a quality starter on a fairly awful offense.

People seem to miss that Belichick did not respond "We're happy with what we have" when he was asked why the Patriots didn't select a QB but instead said "We didn't plan it that way."

Why would the patriots want him?

Because their current depth chart at the most important position in sports is a mediocre veteran NFL quarterback, a 4th round second year player whose only throws in anger ended in a pick six, and two undrafted rookies.

But adding an inaccurate injury prone running QB who can’t run any more won’t help that.
I understand you are underwhelmed with Stidham and get that (my thinking is if Belichick is ready to roll with him he knows what he is getting) but adding a guy who sucks is pointless.
I would rather have kept Cody Kessler.

Cam Newton completed 67.9% of his passes in 2018 for 24 TDs and 13 INTs, while adding 500 yards on the ground for 4 more TDs. Tom Brady has never completed more than 67.4% of his passes in any year. He missed most of last season with an injury but he was actually very good in 2018, this pervasive narrative that he's washed up just doesn't jell with the facts. Cody Kessler, on the other hand, does actually really suck.

When the odds are that high, it often means somebody knows something.

A week ago those same people were saying Belichick had to take a QB in the draft.

:)

Why do you think that you will convince folks with facts?

Sure they were. Their judgement was that Belichick would do so. Now, there are few choices left.
