Say if it was Gilmore, our 1st and a 3rd for the 3rd overall pick. Would people do that deal? Would Bill?
I would not and I don't think Bill would either as it's giving up way too much. And that would be career suicide for Patricia.

It's a great deal but it's a risk you take a bust. I'd rather trade a player like Gilmore for another elite player ala Champ Bailey for Clinton Portis.

One of my favorite trades ever.

Chargers signed Donald Parham, the giant XFL tight end. Patriots should've gone after him.

If Detroit is so desperate for corners, why were they not rushing to sign Logan Ryan?

Ryan wants big money.
and is not an elite corner, so big money for mediocrity, wait thats half the contracts in the NFL

I don’t follow.
2005 Divisional round...in Denver...Brady throws a poorly-thought-out INT in Donkeys EZ...to Champ Bailey...who starts running it back down the left sideline...being pursued (unbeknownst to him) by Ben Watson...

I had a feeling that's what you meant. I just don't know what that has to do with trading Gilmore for another elite player.

I'd rather keep Gilmore. But if he's traded, I'd take an equal player to an unknown draft pick as you and I both know if can be fecked up!

It doesn't really have anything to do with the possibility of trading Gilmore...in fact I can go either way on that...I was actually responding to Joey's post - his response to yours, which is the reason I included it - that the Bailey-Portis trade was one of his favorites ever, when sadly if that trade never happened and Portis had remained in Denver then the Pats' chances of winning that game would've been significantly better...Horrible, horrible trade for the Deadskins...Sorry for the confusion.

Okay. Got it. Yeah I'd like to know why @Joey007 likes that trade so much?

Bailey was a key piece in Denver's resurgence in the mid 2000's.

I just thought the trade was awesome. That statement had nothing to do with us. I really dgaf about them beating us in 2005. We weren’t at our best that year anyways.

You don’t often see trades involving an elite player for another elite player straight up. I wish it happened more often.

I think one of the reasons it doesn't might be that a player's signing bonus and/or other non-base salary monies becomes immediately due on a team's cap charge if he is traded...or something like that...Don't know why teams can't just subtract the differences between the traded players and leave it at that, because I agree that player-for-player swaps are almost always more interesting.

That massive extension for McCaffrey is just so dumb. When will teams learn to stop paying running backs?

Anyways, some reports that Kenny Stills and Keke Coutee may be available from the Texans. Coutee doesn't do much for me but Stills is pretty cheap ($7m cap hit) with only one year left on his deal and would immediately slot in as a starter for the Patriots and would complement the skillsets of Edelman, Sanu, and Harry. I'd give up a 6th for him in a heartbeat, especially if the Patriots wait to select a receiver until later in the draft.
