That massive extension for McCaffrey is just so dumb. When will teams learn to stop paying running backs?

Anyways, some reports that Kenny Stills and Keke Coutee may be available from the Texans. Coutee doesn't do much for me but Stills is pretty cheap ($7m cap hit) with only one year left on his deal and would immediately slot in as a starter for the Patriots and would complement the skillsets of Edelman, Sanu, and Harry. I'd give up a 6th for him in a heartbeat, especially if the Patriots wait to select a receiver until later in the draft.

I'm torn on the McCaffrey extension because while he is a RB, he also functions as a very good starting WR, or even an elite slot if you want to stretch. That doesn't mean his shelf life won't be just as short as the average RB though, making it a risk. He's also just about the only valuable asset on that roster right now. If I were a Carolina fan I'd have trouble getting myself to love or hate that move.

David Johnson sucks, Will Fuller can't stay healthy, Brandin Cooks has failed to live up to expectations everywhere, and Kenny Stills is a journeyman. Hopkins was arguably the best receiver in the league and his contract was totally reasonable. It's unclear how they're "competing" with the Chiefs and Ravens; offenses don't play each other.

While Hopkins contract is reasonable, he wants it redone. That was the whole premise behind the trade. That the Texans didn't want to re-do it just 2 years into the contract.

We'll agree to disagree regarding your assessments of Johnson and Cooks.

Gronk to Tampa lines up with our resident poster with a friend in the know.
Gronk is tight with Glazer and Arians is tight with Glazer it passes the smell test so far.
Chris, did you even read the article?

Glazer said it is not a trade, transaction or a signing. I'm thinking it could be NFL news, like Pats got clobbered again by Goodell, or something to do with upcoming season or something stupid like an NFL game in China.

Last time the media made vague promises about breaking news around the draft, it was for Ryan Shazier walking onto the stage and announcing a pick.

Nice story, obviously, but it's not worth hyping...

This isn't really true. McCaffrey's a good running back but he's very much a good running back, not a slot receiver. His average yards before catch per reception in 2019 was -0.1 (James White's is 1.7 by comparison, while Edelman's is 8.0), meaning his average reception is at or before the line of scrimmage. He has only 400 or so receiving yards in his career on passes that travel 4 or more yards downfield.

He was under contract for several more years, there was no dire need to extend him.

BREAKING NEWS
Team owners are discussing having games without fans this Fall.

Perhaps this is his breaking news.

BTW, Fauci is discussing how this can be accomplished for all sports. Bringing back sports seems to be a high priority. I agree that opening professional sports will be good step forward.
