Hightower?

If that's really an option I'd trade you for a loaf of bread.

On a serious level why do so many people want to trade starters for what looks like a totally overrated TE ?

Exactly what has he done so far in the NFL to be worthy of anything more than a 4th/5th round pick ?

Bill traded for him; might as well see what they have in him...same with Cunningham...I'm hoping he can become at least a 53-worthy backup RG/RT...don't think he'll ever become a viable option on the Left side or at Center...Still shouldn't preclude Bill from drafting both a C/G AND a Swing Tackle; question then becomes: how soon?

Considering the idea's source, I think it's less about the return and more about getting rid of Hightower for some inexplicable reason.

I don’t think this one deserves its own thread, but does deserve to be recognized, so I figured here was as good a place as any to post.

Trying to use a little logic......IMO....... and you can disagree.
We all remember the cutting of Lawyer Milloy who was Team Captain. He was too high in CAP and age was creeping in. I think BB really liked Milloy but made a decision because Milloy was a proud man and a cut in pay was not an option. It's not like Milloy was playing bad but "one year early" seems to be the deal with Bill.
How is this any different?
I understand that Hightower is a binkie to some and verboten to suggest the term "trade or cut".

If you take a breath and think about this without "binkyness" , this makes more sense than losing the younger Gilmore. Yes, Gilmore can be worth more but with the history of injuries surrounding Hightower if I can get value (and I am not trading if I can not) and make CAP space, I was chastised for saying we need to come up with $8mm for Draft choices but I will ask a dumb question...does not the dollars to sign the two restricted FA yesterday enter into that number?

Regardless if we need all $8mm or just $3mm for this very large Draft class (unless we trade around) it could be a need to gain CAP.

Thuney? That can gain you a few dollars by a long term contract but not all we need.Sanu? That would be a little ego hit. I think they can wait to see if he is healthy and ready to produce. Cut Chung? Again a BB favorite on his second tour of duty. He has bought in here.

A scenario would be in Metlife with Joe Judge and Bret Arnold Bielema, linebackers coach and senior defensive assistant for the New York Giants. If Judge wants to change the culture there, picking up Hightower would be an immense get for them. I think the Giants need quantity, of players in this Draft. Judge can dump old regime roster players that are not on the same page. He's gonna get a few years to get this right.

Here is a wildass thought. How about the Giants trading down #4 to the Pats for our first round pick #23, our 3rd round pick #100, one of our 4, 6th rounders+ Hightower and a #2 pick in 2021?

The trade value numbers would look like #4 1,800-#23 760- #100 100, #212 5.4 and perceived value of a mid 2021 2nd round pick of a 420 value or 514.6 difference in Trade value points of roughly a second-round pick equivalent of #39 in the second round for a value on Hightower. So the Giants get a #1,#2,#3 and #6 plus Hightower for pick #4 in the first Round. The numbers work on paper. The Giants fans would have a stroke.

The good news for the Pats here is the Giants are desperate for an OT. The way the Mocks are falling at #23, they could have their pick of Austin Jackson, Isaiah Wilson, Josh Jones and Ezra Cleveland who have all Round 1 mentions. Are Wirths, Becton or Wills or Thomas, worth 3 extra picks and Hightower over any the others above?

The Giants have the CAP to do it. No question Hightower and Williams would headline the Giants front 7 on defense. These would be the best two.
We get a shot at a QB or ???
Thoughts?

The problem with that trade proposal is not some kind of sentimental attachment to HT but you trading away a starter and key cog for a TE who is way closer to a bust than a first round value pick.

I'd rather throw in a third round pick -- even though personally I'd go with a fourth -- to bet on Howard than sending away an actual impact player.

I know absolutely nothing about Trey Burton but I can't see why it would hurt for Pats to give him a shot...seeing he caught 59 passes in 2018... Can't be a downgrade over LaCosse and Izzo.

Even better!

Poor man's Jordan Reed. Not quite as fragile.

I had to read that 3 times to convince myself he really said what he said.
