Since y’all are discussing politics - you might listen to Axelrod. This likely increases Trump’s chances of winning. Every day for the next several months, he gets to stand next to Fauci, take actions and make news. Biden is a bystander, irrelevant, stuck on the sidelines - like Pat Mahomes in the AFCCG 2 years ago.

It's possible I guess but looking at the death rate trends for this virus paints a bleak picture right now. If people are dying at 1200-1500 per day there's no one he can stand next to.

I'm praying that he is somehow able to get out in front of this soon. The actions states have taken are promising along with the increased testing so we'll see if it's enough.

Anyone know where the idea of an 18 month quarantine came from? I can’t find a source. Thanks.
I think the projection for a potential vaccine is 1 year to 18 months.

That’s where he’s getting the number from I believe. So that would basically be a scenario where nothing we are doing is working.

Anyone else notice how Mexico’s case numbers are extremely low? Not even 100 cases up to this point.

Makes me wonder if seasonal climate is a major factor for the disease.

You keep on saying increased testing, where are you seeing that? All I see is people not able to get tests.

That or everyone is in the US. Doh!

Off topic: I really want Tom Brady back

Just heard Iran is estimating over a million deaths by end of May.

Worst case CDC numbers for US are saying 400,000 to 1.7 Million and up to 200 million infected over the next 18 months. Ley get's hope they get an effective vaccine.

Those numbers seem crazy but who knows...

:/
Stay safe everyone. Being dumb about this might not cost you your life but it might cost someone you love's life. My wife just left her job yesterday because the boss she works for refuses to close down the small office or to take extra cleaning precautions. He doesn't think it's a big deal "because he never gets sick" and had no response when she told him she couldn't take a chance because her husband (me) has a serious cardiac condition... for some people, it's all about them...

Imagine being old where grocery shopping could be a fatal choice...
:/
He should be sued or shot.

So the chanting of build that wall at Latinos kids during basketball games...is that cool? I mean, it's kind of the same thing. If you dont think kids are gonna start name calling in a similar way....but hey, it isnt like the president is condoning it...well. maybe a little.

Bullying of any kind isn't cool and yet it exists no matter who is President.

I don't find building a wall and criticizing a country who neglected to inform the world of a possible pandemic the same thing.

I do understand your point of view and I do respect it because I know you mean well. I know your opinion isn't politically motivated.

Anyway what China did, twice, needs to be addressed.

Trump's response to this virus needs to be addressed.

Bullies who bully for whatever reason need to be addressed.

It has spread in the southern hemisphere, including Australia, Africa, and South America, where it is late summer. Lower rates, so maybe temperature has a dampening effect, but certainly not a shutdown effect

I'm a dentist and we shut down the office yesterday. I have one staff member working (volunteered)
and we are seeing emergencies only, ( swelling, pain ,infection) and we had a few today. I got a few calls from patients who had emergencies whose office refused to see them.We are shut for 2 weeks, though it likely will be longer. The NY Times ran an article on Sunday listing the highest risks professions and dentist was number one due to the aerosols from the drill and the virus being airborne. I have a responsibility to my family, my staff and my community at large NOT to spread the disease. Those offices that are still open for routine care ( in direct contravention to State Board recommendation and CDC recommendations are leaving themselves open to liability if someone can link an outbreak to someone putting dollars over health...

I mentioned chloroquine was showing effectiveness in Australia on Monday. Today, a French doctor says he's gotten a significant cure rate administering chloroquine.

Bayer preps U.S. donation of malaria med chloroquine to help in COVID-19 fight: report
"
In France, for instance, a professor conducted a small study of the malaria drug in 24 patients with novel coronavirus infections. Only 25% of those who received the medicine tested positive for the virus after 6 days, according to en24. Meanwhile, of those who didn't receive it, 90% tested positive after that timeframe. The French government now plans to run larger studies.

In a study published last month in Nature, authors wrote that “chloroquine is a cheap and a safe drug that has been used for more than 70 years and, therefore, it is potentially clinically applicable against the 2019-nCoV.”

Studies find potentially effective medicine for coronavirus treatment and prevention that's readily available

What's the treatment? Multiple studies showed that the use of chloroquine to treat the coronavirus can lead to faster recovery and shorter hospital stays for patients.

Chloroquine is normally used as an anti-miliarial drug, used for the prevention and/or treatment of malaria. It's available in the United States by prescription, and can be safely taken by men and women of all ages, including pregnant women.

Doctors in China and South Korea have observed that the coronavirus patients treated with chloroquine show reduced fever and better lung CT images, and so far research has not found any negative effects of the treatment.

No I agree with that. My point was more that the rates are much lower, not that it stops altogether.

We’re not going back to normal

Under this model, the researchers conclude, social distancing and school closures would need to be in force some two-thirds of the time—roughly two months on and one month off—until a vaccine is available, which will take at least 18 months (if it works at all). They note that the results are “qualitatively similar for the US.”

The related drug hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil) is used widely for rheumatoid arthritis and similar diseases. It is quite safe and well-tolerated. I think they are looking at a possible preventative dose in higher risk patients, along with a therapeutic regimen.

Something tells me we'll be seeing many of these clips in commercials in a few months...

Story checks out:
Remdesivir and chloroquine effectively inhibit the recently emerged novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) in vitro
