AMC Theatres is limiting ticket sales to 50% of an auditorium's seating capacity in efforts to promote social distancing. Now watch the patrons in half-full theaters all congregate in the middle seats.

Chris

Smart marketing move by AMC though. They go from “there’s no way anyone should go to a theater” to “well, they did take precautions.” Like they’d be selling more than 50% without that announcement anyway!

Speaking of failure, @Ian or mods would it be asking too much to get the misspelling in the thread title corrected? Some of the BS in this thread notwithstanding, this isn't chiefsplanet...yet. Certainly the coronavirus is a serious enough subject to merit being properly spelled.

Yeah, that's going to make a great difference . Same type of people who will criticize Trump for some misspelling on one of his Tweets and argue he unfit for office for that reason alone.

Indeed.

Self-quarantines + delayed new releases = sub-50% attendance anyway.

Chris

Please stay on topic and don't abuse Ian's generosity in letting some political conversation take place ... But the thread is about Coronavirus ... not politics in general.

Thank You

I've been getting emails from restaurants offering up to 20% off takeout orders. Interesting to see how various businesses are adapting to our current situation.

Would have been nice for the Brady threads to have been merged as well...

Ian wants to leave those as they are ...
But if he changes his mind I am sure he will do it.

Friggin' @Ian that guy acts like he owns the joint or something

Let's call out lack of leadership on both sides. Delaying the process by sticking abortion funding in a Coronavirus relief bill was ****ing disgusting. And I'm not anti abortion.

Maybe the final bill is ready for vote earlier if it's not packed with political garbage that has nothing to do with the pandemic.

Please explain what "abortion funding" was in the bill during negotiations.

So I went to the local Stop n Shop at 6am this morning to get some water and bread and bananas and juice. I get organic vegetables delivered and some other things, as well. There was a line of about 25 people to get in. Wut? Once inside there were no loaves of bread...I prefer oatmeal or 12 grain...takes me about 3 weeks to eat 1 loaf. It's my vice. There was some water but no 2 Liter bottles that I like (yeah, I have a Brita but I am also a creature of habit.). Bananas and juice, it is. I noticed the meat section had been ravaged but there was a trolley of Perdue chicken that had not been stocked yet. There was no toilet paper. I wasn't near that particular aisle and didn't need any but yet thankfully there was a woman shouting at the top of her shrieking lungs, "There's no toilet paper. There's no toilet paper." She was ignored by all.

I know this isn't new to many but I hadn't been food shopping in a couple of weeks and I try not to watch any news since I've gotten off my medication. Perhaps that was a mistake. (I'm kidding....or am I?)

I regret having seen the movie, Idiocracy, because this trip would have been much funnier to me as I was experiencing it. Now it seems lame and depressing. I feel like I should get tested but for what I'm not really sure.

I was very fortunate. I got to the Market basket presumably a day before they ran out of non perishables. I saw people loading up on water etc but it wasn't really a panicky environment. I think most are buying extra supplies just case of an unknown something. Quarantine? How long?

I'm hoping and think that the stores will be able to catch up with the demand for most things and people will be able to get what they need soon enough.

Funny side note: Luckily I like split pea soup. Apparently not a popular soup in Massachusetts. There was plenty of that left.

Split pea soup is harsh :p

Eminem thought to have Coronavirus.

Public statement released by doctors, it has been revealed that his palms were sweaty, knees weak and arms were heavy.. He presented with vomit on his sweater already.. Initial testing has revealed it was just moms spaghetti.

That's my dystopian dad joke of the day to all of you. You're welcome.

Dad joke = Shut up and take my "funny"

I'm going to begin this post by saying that I have no dog in this fight as I am not American and don't live in the US. In observing the lack of a cohesive Federal reaction to the Covid 19 virus over the last month (until 3 days ago), it is astonishing to outside observers how any American citizen could be satisfied with the job your President and his administration have done in the preparation and management of this threat. Much of the world winced when the US Government rejected the WHO offer of Covid 19 test kits. Every other country gladly accepted the kits. Our collective jaws dropped to the floor when your President said that the virus would "magically disappear". Science and common sense were clearly telling all of us that this virus would not be impacted in any way, by magic.

From the outside looking in, the only words that come to mind when considering how the current administration has handled this situation are "gross negligence" and "recklessly irresponsible". What is equally baffling to "outsiders" like me are the number of Americans who are digging their heels in and saying that the President has done a good job with the Covid 19 threat.
We foreigners tend to place value and importance on facts and logic and I suppose the overriding question I have is why would Americans put their political party affiliations before the good of their country?
It is truly bizarre.

This morning I read that Belize’s first step to combat Covid 19 will be to produce laminated signs showing locals how to wash hands correctly. Hope your govt can manage phase 1
