Brady: I'm not wearing a blazer to the super bowl next year...

They would have played KC in Foxboro with those two healthy. I'd give that game a coin flip. Their running game would have been much stronger imo, which would have opened up the passing game. I understand that's just my opinion and understand that it's debatable.

As far as the roster turnover goes there are questions after every season and always a few surprises so I'll wait before commenting on that. But if they want to compete for a championship next season Tom Brady is the only answer.

Any " Bridge" QB costs them just as much as Brady does with the 13 million dead money included. So no real cap space gain but a huge talent loss.

If they go with Stidham ( 1 million + 13 million) they'll save approximately 16 million to spread around. Can you honestly upgrade the team enough to offset the difference between Stidham and Brady with the additional 16 million? No, I don't think so. Again just my opinion.

So they need to sign Brady.
Stidham I think is around $500k but that's splitting hairs. Yes, there is roster turnover every year but this year is exceptional -- the Patriots have 20 free agents on top of multiple needs otherwise. The $16 million could = two starters, not insignificant under these conditions. But the bigger question is how long you're willing to put off building a solid foundation for the future vs. what shapes up as another mediocre year or two holding pattern with Brady.

But who knows? Maybe Brady comes back at a relatively low number and serves as mentor/bridge QB to Stidham or a rookie and the team is able to remain competitive. I've said the Pats aren't a title threat in 2020 with or without Brady. I still feel that way hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

The odds with Brady are higher than without. Injuries, yet another under-performing draft, and multiple personnel mistakes were the three contributors for missing out this season.

Had Brady had Andrews and Devlin, and merely league-average depth at TE & WR they would have been in the AFCCG. No doubt.
Finished it for ya.

Not arguing because you could be right and even more so if they had made to the Super Bowl.

But part of my thinking is that if the ground game forced the defense to stop the run (load the box) it would have opened up the passing game a bit with the same receivers. At least against the KC defense it would have but maybe not vs the 49ers.

@shmessy thinks he's a great coach

You OBVIOUSLY have severe reading comprehension issues:

Who deserves more blame for losing the Super Bowl?

"To summarize:
-10-10, 2nd quarter, 1:50 to go
- you have 3 timeouts
- you're receiving the ball to start the 2nd half and KC is punting with the clock running.

And you DON'T play to take advantage of that until 3rd and long with 9 seconds when all of a sudden you huck it way down field??????????

Forget about the 4th quarter.........Shanahan shouldn't have been allowed back on the sidelines for the 2nd half."

.....that wasn't all, though. They followed THAT by running two straight plays right into the line and bled over a minute more off the clock........

And then chucked it downfield on a play that would've picked up mega yards if not for a controversial OPI.

There was no rhyme or reason to anything in that sequence and shows pretty clearly that Shanahan was all over the place in deciding what to do.

Did I mention, they were also going to receive the kickoff at the start of the second half?

That's as close as it comes to playing with house money in a tie game.

I don’t know guys, Mahomes made the plays, that 3 and 15 play to hill was nuts. The defense of the 49ers kinda played scared the whole game against the KC wide receivers.

I think you may be the first poster on this board to suggest that the KC Chiefs some how played a role in the 49ers losing the Super Bowl. Interesting take.

Sorry I got you confused with @Ice_Ice_Brady

Shanahan is an outstanding coach. Though I don't know why he went away from the run when it was dominating there. It's possible that KC forced SF's hand by giving them such favorable passing matchups and JG didn't capitalize, but I really don't know and that's why they say eggheads need to break down the tape, and then the eggheads often disagree anyway. I had said earlier in this thread that Shanahan was most to blame for the loss.

Everyone is completely overreacting and going off the rails with their opinions of both Kyle Shanahan and Jimmy Garoppolo right now. Both of them were very good for 16 regular season games, 2 postseason games, and 3 quarters of the Super Bowl. Can't it be possible that these guys are both "good" at their jobs despite finishing 2nd out 32 instead of 1st out of 32?

It seemed to me that the Pats running game later in the season wasn't really the problem - or at least not nearly the problem - that it was earlier in the season when they were still adjusting to life without Develin, Andrews, Gronkowski & Wynn, and when Sony was really sucking. With Wynn's return, Karras' improvement and Sony not sucking as badly, the running game was easily the strength of the offense - yet it appeared that Bill & Skippy still didn't have enough confidence in it, especially during some crucial 3rd-down situations that could've made a season's worth of difference. As one example, having Kneal Harry on the field during some 3rd/shorts - and then calling plays in his direction! - instead of Burkhead was simply mind-boggling.
As bad as being without Develin, Andrews & Gronk was, being with that collection of crap at TE & WR was even worse.

I’ve always disliked shotgun on 3rd and short as the offense’s general rule. Even if it’s 3rd and a foot.

Can't argue against any of that. But I don't think the running game was strong enough to force defenses to load the box. But it was better. TE production was sorely missed all season. Devlin could have alleviated that loss in the blocking and a bit in the pass production. Harry is a work in progress and Sanu ...... who knows.

Funny or maybe not funny at all but they looked like world beaters in week two. Damn

"I think Jimmy is one of the main reasons we got to the Super Bowl," Shanahan said at the 49ers season-ending press conference Thursday. "I think he overcame a lot. This was his first year in his career going through an entire NFL season. He still doesn't have as many starts and stuff as Baker Mayfield.

"I think he had a hell of a first year truly playing the position, especially coming off an ACL where you have to fight through that a ton as a quarterback, where your rhythm and everything is not there at the beginning of the year. For him to be like that and to not let the pressure get to him, and to improve as the year went, I think says a ton about Jimmy. I can't tell you how much I loved coaching the guy as a player and as a person this year."

49ers coach Kyle Shanahan commits to Jimmy Garoppolo at quarterback for 2020 season

Reasonable people understand that 3 games is not an NFL season, particularly given the context of the discussion. You're welcome to keep ****ing that chicken if you want, though.

He's got 26 starts in 6 NFL seasons, which is less than 2 full seasons worth of starts. So, yes, the look what he did with so little experience card is in play here.

Well I’m not sure what ****ing a chicken has to do with any of this but maybe you should check out a forum for farm animal fetish.
