Report: Dante Scarnecchia to Retire

Hard to believe Brady would come back with him retiring. He remembers how 2015 went. Throw in Thuney probably leaving and Andrews future in doubt.
How about how 2014 went?

He came out of retirement after the awful Gug and helped win 2 more super bowls. This is not good at all. Maybe he's hearing Brady is gone?
The odds of TB12 staying were not helped by this development.

As I said, your analysis from there:
So you're saying Brady's presence alone ensures a playoff appearance, right? I guess I'll need to see more happen before I can agree with that.

If this is true, I hope Dante enjoys his retirement. Also, if this is true, I look forward to watching the homers painting this as a good thing.

lol it only took until the very next post :D

They need to give him a night at Foxboro this year.....drag to the game if need be.

Also..they need to pay Thuney. The OL will need as much Dante carryover as possible....especially if TB returns.

Most important non-HC in the league.

I thought Scar had a pretty awful year last year along with McD. Might be good for a change.

It's true, Scar did nothing to help the guy who had been sitting on his couch for 18 months eating potato chips, and then found himself protecting Brady's blind side. It was almost like Scar said, "he's good enough, no one else wanted him, but we did!"

This sucks, how could anyone think this is a good thing considering his body of work?

well, okay then

Does Scar have a comp elsewhere on any other team...in NFL history? Imagine staying with a franchise for almost 40yrs through multiple owners and multiple coaching staffs. It takes a special guy to survive that kind of churn. The team should replace the current helmet logo with Scar's profile. Nobody says "New England Patriots" more than him.

Regards,
Chris

Man, I am fearing we are losing an awful amount of people this year that contributed to our success the last several years.

It isn’t good, but it was easily predictable. Change happens - good teams deal with it.

Yeah it’s silly to say Scar would leave because Brady might, but I can see how Brady’s decision may be influenced by Scar leaving.

Guys, let’s face it. Scar was terrible last year. Marshall Newhouse is an all-pro if he’s being coached by a decent guy who knows blocking. Karras got held back. If Scar cared about conditioning, Wynn would have been healthy all the way through another Lombardi run. That dude that coached the o-line in the AFCCG at Denver is awesome and I hope he’ll come back.

Of course. There might be 2-3 guys in the last 20 year's that are on par with Scar. The gap between him and 99.9% of other OL coaches is enormous.

*edit* no is giving years off their life for Jack or thinks of him as a close 2nd only to their father. Very important but Scar is a walking god.

Pat Flahrety an option? I know he was a disaster in Miami and was fired before even coaching a game. But he’s had success

I'll elaborate: in my opinion, Brady's presence won't improve matters much in 2020 regarding prospects for a deep playoff run, which look to be slim either way.

So you're saying Brady's presence alone ensures a playoff appearance, right? I guess I'll need to see more happen before I can agree with that.

You're really going to move the goalposts on this?

Already?

Come on, man.

How am I moving the goalposts? I believe I've been consistent on Brady re. his impact on 2o2o. Maybe I'm misunderstanding you?

Perhaps, at his age, Scarnecchia humbly realized he doesn’t have the energy or focus to do his job at the level he has done it for all these years.

An honest man giving a honest assessment of himself. Last season was not his best work. Chances are his successor will never be as good of an OL coach as Scar was when he was younger and more driven, but based on what we saw last season, Scar may no longer be that coach either.

Good for him. He should go into the Patriots HOF as soon as possible. I wish him well in his retirement.
