Very cool. Reiss seems like a class act

That's great. Kudos to Mike.

ESPN Boston used to be a great landing spot for Patriots related items due to his influence and that great blog he maintained. There was a lively community in the comments section similar to this one. Among the many sins of ESPN, neutering that site is one of the worst.

He's a consummate professional. Most media figures in the Boston sports scene try too hard to inject their personalities, biases and agendas into their 'analysis'. Mike presents a mostly neutral perspective and cares most about getting the facts right, even if it costs him the 'scoop'. He gives a lot of insight into players' personalities and backgrounds and I think is highly respected by the team and by Belichick.

ESPN doesn't deserve him.

No one more deserving than Mike. A great reporter & a total class act!

Congratulations Mike.

One of the few journalists out there that succeeds with quality of content rather than clickbait BS.

Agreed. Used to do chats, mailbags etc. I don’t understand why ESPN wouldn’t want that kind of community tbh

Congrats to Mike! One of the best in the business. Can he be inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame?

He's been around forever and he's just a good guy. I was fortunate enough to meet and have lunch with him many years ago and he's just one of the most genuine people you'll ever meet. He's certainly one of a kind and I'm glad he's remained the one constant in a market that has undergone so many changes beat-wise.

Who gives out this award?
Not sure of the details behind the award but either way, it's certainly well-deserved

There's no money in free stuff.
I’m not sure what that means in this context though. All of his stuff is still free, it just seems to me that it’s less appealing for fans/readers. I would assume the more people they draw in the better. I’m sure I’m missing something and the changes have benefited their bottom line, I’m just not sure that I see how, at least in that area.

I'm not sure he knows what it meant either. It was just "catchy" sounding.

It's less that he's doing. So the need for his time, and for support staff, isn't there. Mike's not doing much over at his own site, either. When you're looking to strip mine the cash fields, you want the loss leaders to lose as little as possible.

And, in the case of ESPN, the huge drop in subscription revenue was always bound to have repercussions beyond just personnel cutbacks.

Well deserved. Hands down the best sports journalist covering the Patriots and has been for a while.
Going back to the start of this dynasty, there were 2 guys:
Reiss and Curran( when he was still at projo). Then there was everybody else.
Back then, I thought they were equals and both were must-read for any Pats fan.
Then a little bit at a time, I started losing respect for Curran. Like the majority of sports media in Boston, he started engaging in gossip, rumor- mongering and hawt takes. Now he's just another asssclown. Damn shame because he used to be great.
There are a few other good sports journalists in Beantown, like Steve Howe.
But thank God for Reiss. He's the real deal.

Mike Reiss and Alex on Autos. 2 guys just giving straight up facts.

Been reading Reiss since his days at the Metrowest Daily. One of my fave things he wrote was on his own blog during the height of Deflategate. He's a Patriots lifer....

Mike Reiss should be running ESPN beat reporter seminars before each season to teach the rest of the clowns over there that it's not all about being first and getting clicks. A cool customer and congrats.
