Tom Brady: an honest take

You don't spit in the wind, you don't tug on Superman's cape, and you don't bet against Bill Belichick and Tom Brady in the playoffs. Let the rest of the world forget that piece of wisdom, not us.

Well historically, you bet against Bill and Tom when they dont have a bye since they’ve never won a SB without one, but every year is different

i have to see his two worst seasons back to back before i discard tom f brady

one year low doesn't mean anything, we've seen him go up and down before

His entire TB12 method is built around pliability, and if the owner of said business has to retire because of a muscle related injury, thats a reeeeally bad look for your business
It’s actually a tendon-related injury, but your point still holds.

Relatedly, I’m worried that Tom will play longer than he should (and look bad doing it) because I think he views playing until 45 as a big justification of his TB12 brand.

His. Throwing. Arm. Is. Injured.

what part of this do people not understand?

He's about to turn 43. This happens with increasing frequency to people as they age. What part of that do you not understand? The chances of him going through a season in the NFL at 43 and not being beset with all the same or worse ailments is virtually nil.

I'm sure BB wishes he did too. He only lit Philly for 505 and won last year's Super Bowl.
He wasn't exactly overwhelming in the last SB.

This team with Stidham would be lucky to win 4 games. Belichick coached without Brady before. We all know how that ended.
That's pretty much the stupidest argument you could come up with.

The 2006 offense was far better than this offense. The numbers back it up.
Yeah? And the QB hadn't started a game since high school.

Brady is Human - thats right over the years we questioned that but the fact is BRADY IS HUMAN and he is 43 - Athletes since the beginning of time eventually lose their talents due to father time and when you add to the mix that there is a bad running game most of the year and 2 rookies that can't separate from their man often enough,no Tight End to block or make big plays and that all equals a disaster of an offense - these are signs of a dying era, hope i'm wrong but the ride was fun and im ready for whats next in the years ahead.....good or bad

Jimmy's TD/INT this season is 27/13 while Brady's is 22/7. I'd give the edge to Jimmy this year but it isn't like we let a Mahomes (25-4) or Wilson (29/5) wander away.
Did you actually watch the game tonight?

I don't think people realize that Tom Brady is turning 43 in 2020. "But he was playing hurt" excuse doesn't work as well when you realize that, yeah, players over 40 years of age tend to get hurt more often. How many players in all of professional sports are over 40 years of age? Vinatieri, Brady, Brees, Vince Carter...and that's about it. Yeah, there is a reason for that, because 40 years old players can't keep up with players in their 20s.

I'm fine with Brady playing for us for another season, but it is crucial that Belichick finds our next franchise QB ASAP if we want to keep the dynasty going.

Some good points. People do tend so see all players as equal healers. That's just not the case as father time catches up. The NFL season is a grind on the body. Aches, pains, bumps. bruises, 'minor' injuries(and not so minor) here and there are happening to most players. By the time December rolls around it's very widespread. A 40+ year old body will not repair itself the way a 25 year old body will. I'd bet there are 'approaching 40 year old' players that could train hard, practice hard, probably play well pre-season and beginning season. But as the grind goes on their bodies just are not going to keep up with what is needed to perform in Nov. and Dec. Their expectation for 16 games is extremely poor. Just is what it is.

I don't know if TB is done but some honesty is needed about what 43 years old means to those posting 'if he is healthy' in a 16 game 2020 NFL season. But as I say that I note that this season is not over. Let's see what BB-TB-et al can do against the Titans -- then see what happens from there.

The sign of a good coach in all sports is knowing when to move on from declining stars before anyone else and it usually proves to be the right decision in the long run despite the initial shock from fans and media alike.

BB like all great coaches tried this a few years ago but was stopped by kraft and I understand why but to remain at the top in sport you can’t have room for sentiment.

You might be thinking of the Cassel-led offense of 2008.

In 2006, the offense wasn’t anything special with their lack of receiving options, but they still put up 24.1 PPG and came in 7th in that category.

People assume winning SBs is so easy by comparing JG and Brady after a loss today. Its quite ridicolous. We didnt get a good haul for JG , maybe. But if we had let brady go and he won with SF or some other team , you would kill BB for that too.
SF looks very good and very dominant. But it is hard to replicate this yr in an yr our. Look at the Rams. Just to see SF play this yr and assume it will be all the same in coming yrs is just sour graps after a season not going as expected.

So you are saying they should have unloaded Tom after the 2016 season?
Yeah, this website today has been bad. Im usually as respectful as possible, but not even I can hold back. I understand people wanted to win, but 70% of this board sounds really entitled.

This feels like a misleading stat given that we have been the 1st or 2nd seed so freaking often.

In particular the Jimmy Garoppolo hot take artists and revisionists are just killing me here.

They railed about the idea of going with JG over Brady and spent the 2018 season laughing at and mocking the rational posters who thought Garoppolo was going to be awesome (though that doesn’t mean they were in favor of kicking Brady to the curb.). That was when JG blew his ACL. Now the moment it’s “pay up” time for the trade, which was largely sacrificing long-term success to complete an all-time historical career from Brady as a hometown legend, they are suddenly here in droves with the second guessing “told you so,” “would have won with Jimmy last year too” drivel. Yet no one said that last year. I am just so amazed at how ****ty so many forum members are when the magic force behind the Patriots/Brady appears to be receding at last. In fairness, it isn’t a lot of regular posters. It’s lurkers coming out of the woodwork to proclaim now smart (yet oddly silent) they were the whole time.

You're right. I got it mixed up with the stuff about Bill sucking as a coach without TB.

Well, truthfully, hardly anyone has won without the bye.
