Brady named to NFL 100 All-Time team

Because the people who picked him actually know football and its history as opposed to being insecure bandwagoning pink hat New England Bradys fans who barely knew what a football even was before 2001-2004.

How Brady wasn't picked first during a dedicated segment should be the real outrage.

That comment was obviously from a Saints/Brees fan but you’re so stuck on your passive aggressive Brady sucks shtick you’ve been doing for a long time, that you can’t help yourself.

I don't think it's wrong to say Brees probably would have thrived in any era of NFL history or that Baugh, if teleported to 2019, would have had issues finding a role as a backup quarterback. But, like, we can't really test that and this is a TV show where people can learn about the history of the league so picking historical guys for the purposes of the show makes sense, even if I think this thread is underrating Brees quite a bit in an effort to make a point.

I'm shocked Favre made it over Starr for many reasons. (I would also put Rodgers above Favre, for what it's worth.) Young probably deserved it but the guys in the 8-14 range or so are all arguable and you had to drop some of them (Bradshaw, Young, Elway, Favre, Brees, Rodgers, etc. I'd probably take Young over Elway.

Bree’s plays 9 games per year in an indoor tv studio. Another 2 games in Charlotte and Tampa.

If his personal STATS are his argument, he deserves a 20% demerit based in his location coddling, just like Peyton Manning.

Btw, Brees’ career w-l record stands at .590 (170-118).

Ken Stabler and Steve Young were over .650. Hell, Tony Romo, Steve McNair and Phil Simms had better wininning percentages.

I'm not a troll. I've been signed up for this message board for like 7 or 8 years. It so happens that I like the Patriots and root for them and I read this message board most days, if not every day.

Sorry if you don't like it, but it's a free country.

I have to say that every time I go to Saints report the first page had 4-5 threads about Brady or the Pats and it’s always the same 4 idiots spouting nonsense. Let’s not act like this board is in any way worse than what we see there. Sure there are posters that comment on Brees, he’s the closest thing Brady has to a rival right now and are going after the same record.

At the end of the day I, personally, couldn’t give less of a **** who has a passing TD record, but hey that’s just me. I know Saints fans like to proclaim Brees the goat all the time and sell black and gold goat merch with a 9 on it, and hey that’s fine too. But let’s not act like Pats fans rush to speak about Brees when a large portion of your fan base spends their time screaming from the hills about Brees being the goat when literally no one else agrees with you and as mentioned I constantly see entire threads on your board dedicated to Brady and the Pats.

My gripe against Brees is his performance in the post season. Winning multiple games is the key obviously, as I posted in another thread....
Number of years winning more than one playoff game......
Brady--10
P Manning-5
Rodgers-2
Brees-1

I'm a bit surprised Manning wasn't a unanimous top 10 selection

No one who went to Spring Street in the ‘70s will forget that voice. (Nor will they forget Miss Tebbetts, a second cousin of my father’s and sister to Birdie, the Sox catcher.).
I loved Miss Tebbetts and her yardstick. She had a wonderful sense of humor.

It's arguable if he's a top 10 all-time QB. Yes, he's got the stats and the (for what it's worth) MVP trophies. On the other hand, his numerous failures to win in clutch situations are well documented. Why would a non-unanimous vote be surprising?

It’s honestly hard to blame Brees for most of those losses, his defense failed him a bunch of times at the end of the game, I mean Christ look at the Minnesota game. Then you have the 49er game in 2013 where the defense let Alex Smith march the field on them in the 4th quarter twice and the Seattle game in 2010 where they gave up 41 to a 7-9 team.

I will not give him a pass for last year though. While
It’s true they should have won if PI were called the first down pass was atrocious and if he hit that pass they won the game. Then he gets the ball first in OT and throws a pick.

They kept talking about how he did everything from game planning to running the offense himself and directing practice, etc and I’m listening to that thinking “doesn’t that make his crap playoff record worse?”

It's an insane choice. It makes no sense to have Starr outside the top 10 quarterbacks. If you're doing that, you're basically invalidating the entire NFL100 list.

You can live with a guy who should be a #7-#10 kind of guy like Young not making the cut. You can't live with a no doubt top 6 guy, at the game's most important position, not making it.
Starr isn’t a top 6 QB. He won a lot, but realistically those Packers teams were far more run based and those teams were stacked to the gills.

There’s a reason why in that entire era, Unitas was always put ahead of Starr.

I can make an argument for Brady without even needing to touch the post season because his greatness is that high. Starr’s argument starts and ends there

I spent the entire year of 8th grade history with a teacher who played with Otto Graham. On and on, day after day, he went on about some guy I never heard of when at the time I thought Steve Grogan was the greatest QB (of all time.) The teacher had 5 Championships as a defensive tackle with the Browns so his bias made a bias of its own on my brain. I have to consider that the greatest NFL coach and Bill Belichick both considered him an all-time great but that might be bias, too. I'd rather share their opinion of him than your ignorance of him but I'm a bit of a snob with whom I share my groupthink with.

Please feel free to share any Automatic Otto info that your 8th grade teacher passed along. My all-time lists always begin like this:

1A. Brady (expansion era goat)
1B. Graham (pre-expansion era goat)

I’d be fascinated to read any stories about Graham. I’ve scoured the internet but haven’t found as much as I’d like. Everything I have found on him screams of a Brady-like leader and competitor.

Disagree 100%.

2 super bowl titles plus all the stats means it's a no brainer.

Montana also failed numerous times in the playoffs, just not the super bowl.

Yeah Brady’s been quite a failure
Tom was lucky enough to have an NFL head coach who:

- drafted him
- kept him even with three other quarterbacks on the roster including an established veteran starter
- let him play not out of desperation but because he allowed him to earn his way to #2 on the depth chart
- kept him as the starter after some good wins, a few outstanding plays but also a couple of clunkers
- kept him as the starter in the Super Bowl despite being knocked out of the AFCCG which was still won with the established overpaid former starter

Montana likewise benefited from Walsh drafting him, believing in him, and letting him play (and there were more than a few less than impressive games for Joe).

Meanwhile Doug Flutie unfortunately got Berry and Phillips baselessly benching him at the end of seasons when Flutie was the reason the teams were competitive in the first place, bookending his prime in the CFL where he set both rushing and passing season and career records that will never be broken along with three championships.

Flutie also was a respected team player with the exception of when he crossed picket lines to play in '87, of top personal character, was a leader and never got hurt.

Treat Flutie as Elway, Bledsoe and Eason were treated and you've got at least two Lombardi trophies.

I think ranking players should be based upon what they accomplish not based upon excising a lack of accomplishments with argument or the even sillier “if he was on that team he would have won”.
There is no standard skill set that produces winning. Every great winner has clutch plays they made that the pretenders didn’t.
Every player has a career and should be judged on its merits not excuses. Almost every all time great QB took over a team that stunk.
