Kaepernick ..... Tryout Edition

Apparently Kaepernick looked pretty good to the handful of teams who actually showed up - not sure who the executive is who says he looked elite.

Executive Of NFL Team Calls Colin Kaepernick's Arm Talent "Elite" Following Workout

But this thread has almost convinced me to cut Brady for Kaep

Agree. He's not worth the energy. Killing time before I hang X-Mas lights as run extension cords outside
I’m going to kneel in front of your house unless those xmas lights are solar powered:D

I went into this whole thing pretty open minded and curious. I come away feeling like It was about making a new series of Nike commercials, right down to the over -rehearsed statement after. No way I’d want him on my team.

Going to be very interesting to see how he goes about playing the victim now that he harpooned his own workout. The shirt was funny though. They’re so oppressed. Meanwhile, a black man on Thursday night committed assault and battery in front of millions of people, including cops in attendance, and didn’t leave the field in handcuffs.

He is a few years removed from the last time he was the next big thing, something like 2012 or around then. Sorry if off by a couple years. He had a promising start, began to falter, and a little after he started sucking, his "take a knee" issue began.

The problem is that while I think he's got every right to do so, as do the rest of the players, at this point it's a matter of "is he good."

I think it's fine to have this tryout, but the NFL should organize tryouts for anybody who once was good and can't catch on with a team, if we're being fair. Clearly, yeah, there's this weird "movement" around him. I agree w/his right to use his platform. I think he chose taking a knee as a respectful way to signal his issues--he picked it in response to a convo with a teammate who had served suggested it (instead of sitting). The pig socks will possibly look different to different communities. They're his right to wear too... with the number of disturbing incidents being routinely captured, I'll at least say he could be forgiven those too.

But what other QBs couldn't catch on? Would they get one-of-a-kind all-32 tryouts if they blamed their situation on their social activism?

What's going thru the activists' minds, to make Kaep himself an issue, and how he can't get hired? Don't they know teams don't let you just fire off whatever crap you want to? Don't they know there are 2-3 guys per team biting back most of their personal opinions? Do they think everybody else is a dumb jock, but Kaep is woke? No, they all have opinions. It might be sad that the NFL's image is not that of a debating society with a football team, but it's not. You cause trouble in your locker room or with your team's fans, where is that ever good?

I don't think the activist fans are really football fans. I don't think they turn the channel from the latest Kaep story to the actual games. I think they turn the channel to something else about "the struggle" in one form or another.

I'm saying this as someone who thinks "more power to ya" when I see people who are trying to redress wrongs.

I just don't see how it's supposed to work after the 1 supposed hoped for result of getting Kaep on a team. I guess the theory is, he became radioactive b/c of his protest, so it's only fair. Okay, if that's the end of it.

But I can just see players protesting having to play w/an out gay player protesting that by not standing with the team for the anthem or whatever. How does it look then? How about some buttwipe white nationalist doing a fascist salute?

I mean, I guess I would have to say, he's using his platform. But then if his contract is up, the team is facing backlash, and he doesn't get signed... does he get his racist or fascist pro day too?

This whole thing is so focused on one guy and one cause. I can be sympathetic to both. But is that same principle valid for all causes and all QBs?

Wow. Can't believe that's where I come down on this, but it is... that should tell ya something I guesss.

Oh Lord. Xmas lights? Do you put the inflatable Santa next to the inflatable turkey?

:p
In all honesty I have considered solar. If I wasn't looking at 3 kids in college and Mrs RW starting a new business id seriously consider it.

My folks did solar a few years ago. They've seen some savings.

NO! Just some lights around a plum tree, fur tree and a wooden fence we have.

I hang 'em but I don't turn them on until after T-Day.

I'm travelling all next week and next weekend is shot. Only time I can do it.

Was just kidding. My mother used to put them up too early and take them down too late. It drove my father, brother and myself nuts. " Mom.... it's freaking April" haha.

Eh, the article quoted Adam Shefter regarding the unnamed executive...

Falcons may have some 'splainin' to do........

In our yard the feeling is Santa can wait his damn turn, YMMV

All good.

My household is F-ed up. Mrs RW is Jewish but has embraced Christian holidays as the kids do both. Shes already decorated the house w T-Day, X-Mas AND Hanukkah stuff b/c the teenagers like it. Way too early for me but I've given up on that war. Indoor XMas tree is always after TDay.

either way, any unnamed executive , if they are not willing to put their name to statement, where you can analyze it , is not to be taken seriously,

I never cared much for any of the off-field topics that come up with sports, including the salaries of the players. For me it's always been about what happens on the field, court or ice. But it's difficult to ignore all of the sideshows now that the mediots want to shove them in our faces 24/7.

As for Kaepernick, I couldn't care less what he did during the anthem. Thankfully, we don't live in North Korea. I do however take exception to his misrepresentation of the job that police officers perform and that he donated mucho dinero to a cause that defends the killing of police.

If an unnamed source quotes an unnamed source does the double negative rule apply?

This thread alone is proof alone why no team will sign him anyway. Do you think that an owner wants to divide his fan base that much over a backup QB and let's say he becomes the starter just how many fans will stop watching or other kind of repercussions?

Honestly if the Pats would sign Kaepernick just imagine how this forum would look like. So many arguing over non football related stuff. I'm tired of it already.

Yeah, his time with the NFL is over and he should move on.

We have dueling inflatable turkeys, the grandkids really like them. Our oldest grandson stopped by unannounced on his way home the other night to catch the 1st period of the B's game. When he got out of his truck he stopped and took a quick vid of them to fire off to his brothers, I guarantee he'd never do that with our Christmas decorations lol. FWIW, here's the other one...
