I was not able to watch the game- only could catch snatches of it by trying to stream it but I kept getting blocked.

Lots of good things to take away from this game even though it's a big fat L.

In short, the defense veered away from it's identity as an aggressive unit- too much two-gapping, scraping, and diagnosis.. led to many playing on their heels.

BUT, the offense has finally found an identity- and it clicked pretty good in the hurry up, no-huddle. Hopefully we stay with that and just get away from the two back power game. Last year is last year. Let's move on.

Very impressed with how quickly Sanu has assimilated into this offense, high football IQ, earned Brady's trust overnight.

In short, the defense veered away from it's identity as an aggressive unit- too much two-gapping, scraping, and diagnosis.. led to many playing on their heels.

Good point -- a big changeup that put a premium on containing Jackson but occasionally backfired because some players, especially the younger guys, had trouble reining themselves in and staying disciplined. Now that they have a taste of it things should be much different if they face Baltimore again. I hope BB retains the aggressive style despite facing good offenses in the coming weeks. It's a lot more fun to watch.

What I wrote from yest/might have touched on it Sun Idk I'm exhausted. Anyway Zach saw it as well.
"Bill will be kicking himself & probably already is for some of the moves last night on D. The strength of our D is our secondary or at least has been w the LB corp playing unreal as well. Last night Balt put our LBs/Hook defender in bad spots throughout the night. Not just physially, but lack of adjustments that put our guys at a disadvantage (think 1 v 2 when WE WANT 2 V 1) taking on the RO. Balt constructed a beautiful game plan. The staff & Jackson deserve a ton of credit. Why attack the best secondary in the league deep? Take what we give you & attack our hooks & backers".

Saw this before & watched it before the game. Definitely feel like we made an attempt at times to play this out. Maybe I'm off here but I thought we saw KVN, Collins, JJ get opportunities to go after LJ from something designed. Wouldn't be surprised if we saw this before & just thought Wise, Flowers or w/e rushed too far upfield/lost contain.

why was brooks in the game? in a game where we took off CBs and safetys because of opponents lineups, why not have the best CBs and Safaties out there? it couldn't have been a snap count thing right? was it a role thing? do we assign brooks to certain things on D?

also, roberts, did he have a good game or bad game based on his own level, at this point i assume no one on D had a good game, but did anyone have a not so bad game, and where was roberts in that spectrum?

when we went heavy DL and LB, who was left on field in regards to S and CB? (follow on to first question)

one tweet says pats D played a less aggresive, more 2gap style (supposedly b/c lamar can run) is this true? (if so, we left the identity that gave up 7pts/game for half the season, and i'd recommend we go back to it regardless of offense/QB we're facing, if we did change our identify for this game, it would make me feel better about D)

Chung started and had three tackles in the first quarter, but only played 27 of 70 snaps and had no statistics after the first quarter. I’m just not sure why they wouldn’t have announced an injury if that’s what it was.

Honestly i'd rather they lose like this. Brings team down to earth and gives some lessons.

I'm confident we'll see a far better performance in the playoffs should we meet.

I saw Lazar pointing to this yesterday.

While it is interesting stuff what always puzzles me is how coaches or even the armchair experts set everything perfectly up by explaining whats going on but then essentially leave out the final act of their own carefully made content which resolves it all: an explanation what could have been done to counter what the opponents were doing.

From that point of view.. anyone have insight into it ?

This is some very interesting stuff. For example, the base you see, is what I coached back in the day. The read for the ILB's were that if your G blocked down or out, you step UP into the hole.

In this example Roberts clearly didn't. His eyes where in the backfield rather than on his key. Picture this play if Roberts HAD stepped up. He would have been BEHIND the blockers with a clear shot at the RB. INSTEAD he was just another pursuer caught in the wash 10 yds down field.

I think if you watch the entire game you will find that the G's take you to the play. I use to tell my guys, backfield guys will LIE. Guards tell the truth. So the read was always G's thru to the backs. Let the G dictate your first step and direction, THEN, and only then find the ball.

Maybe Roberts key WAS in the backfield this game. I don't think it will be if there is a next.

it looks like the Pats were trying to manipulate the gap blocking scheme by setting up the down linemen in an odd formation.. Notice the DT's setting up over the tackles on their ourside shoulders ... this can cause a gap for the Mike to split if the OG misreads on the split gap... Wilfork used to be good at blowing this stuff up, was very strong and hard to move off his mark when hitting gaps
