Idle thoughts - the "good loss" edition

How the hell did Sanu get up to speed so quickly?

What'd he have, like 12 catches? Maybe he came from a similar system?

We handed them 4 points with the head bob offsides.
We left another 4 points out there at the end of the half.
We handed them 7 points on the Edelman fumble.
That's 15 points without even thinking too hard.
Probably more. I have no doubt Pats were getting points on that drive. At least a FG. Imagine if they took the lead at the start of the 2nd half after the way the game started. Not gonna get mad at Jules, he was doing what he always does. Plays hard, plays to the whistle and tries to get every yard. But that fumble was a 10 point swing. Would have had at least 3, but cost us 7.

Do you take into account points handed to NE or is this one way street the preferred route after ***** slappings?

I know Edelman had just made 2 catches in a row right before the fumble. May have been 3. Not to mention killing it the whole game up to that point.

The floating camera showed an angle of the huddle where you could tell he was gassed a bit. I was thinking, damn this guy is good, but could definitely use a breather.

It's hard to find issues with Bill/Brady, but they gotta be aware of overusing a guy like that. No way he fumbles that ball if he wasn't exhausted.

N'Keal Harry have two weeks to get up to speed cut this crap about sitting First Rounders we don't have the luxury at WR play the dam Rookie other Teams are.

Aside from clubbing Brady in the knee or going Sprewell on Bill it would be hard for me to ever get too mad at Edelman.

Josh McDaniels trying to fit a square peg in round hole Sanu is not and never was a Deep threat.

I said it above but I will say it again. The team offense is absolutely predictable right now because for a variety of reasons all related to pass protection and injuries they played the entire game from the same personnel grouping. ALL GAME (!!).

The BYE is coming at the right time to get some people healthier, coach others up and look forward to Wynn/Harry actually returning and making the offense more sustainable and diverse.

Edelman, Sanu and Watson played every offensive snap Dorsett 1 less.. think that Meyers played one.. wasn't another TE healthy???

Have thought for a while now the Pats have become very predictable..

For Defense similar, Winovich 9 snaps??

I sure hope you are right! OTOH, is predictability always bad? (Within reason of course) If you are good enough, you can be predictable but still demolish people if the matchups are good enough. E.g., there were times you knew it was going to Gronk but they just couldn't do anything about it.

I agree with the general premise of this thread. When they went down 17-0 I was thinking the same thing Ken was, I wanted to see whether they regrouped and fought their asses off, or whether they rolled over, fortunately it was the latter. This team has a lot of work to do, and a tough schedule coming up. I’m looking forward to see how they deal with it, and how they will be set up for a playoff run. # 7 isn’t going to be easy by any means, but they definitely have what it takes to get it done.

Dorsett was playing hurt last night but we give a Healthy Rookie WR who should be familiar one snap and not dress a First Round WR.

More than anything I think the Patriots defensive preparation and gameplan simply did not account for Jackson's mobility and how it changed the rules of the defense game. Late in the 3rd quarter you still had 250-300lb guys rushing upfield and losing contain on QB scrambles, when it should have been clear that the name of the game was just keeping him bottled up at all costs.

They basically stuck to the gameplan for pocket passers against the best running QB we've seen in ages.

Does "Boogeymen" get canned as a Halloween gimmick? Maybe go back to a "Do your job" type of mentality. I wouldn't mind that.

They're 7-1. Wasn't the media digging their grave last year when they were 1-2? They lost five games on the road last year and still took the Lombardi with Edelman getting 10 receptions, Gronk 6, Cordarrelle Patterson 2, White 1 and Burkhead 2.

If they can get Wynn back and a bag of rocks out some combination of Harry, LaCosse, Izzo, Watson and Myers they'll be fine.

Had a lump in my throat wHen the Ravens Drafted Lamar in 2018 he was rumored to us. Had a lump in my throat just watching how he puts fear in our D.:(

I’m never ok with a loss but that was a winnable game with some key mistakes. It goes both ways though, Ravens fumbles also got Pats offense going.

These games happen and hats off to the rattirds. 2014 Kc, 85 bears lost 38-24 vs Miami, 94 Niners lost 30-8 to Philly that year.

It’s not the end of world with a lot of teaching moments and film like Ken mentioned. Still love this defense, can’t take away some of the bad football but they can play better with Players getting healthy over the bye. Plenty of time until December to play their best football.

Nothing to see here. Move along and enjoy the bye.

Belichick is going to spend the next 2 weeks beating it out of them, obviously.

That said part of the problem is that he seemed to be content to just run more or less their normal D from earlier in the year and let the chips fall where they may. Even Belichick has (mostly regular season) games where he adapts poorly mid-stream.

That isn't the Pats D though.

They play cover 0, chasing after the QB while the DBs cover tightly for a couple seconds. If the dline doesn't chase after the QB, WRs will definitely get open vs man coverage.

It's a fun D to watch. Especially vs crap teams with crap olines (looking at you Jets).

Though as fun as watching a D like that is, it's even cooler watching a coach/system/QB beat it.

Luckily for the Pats, odds are you're not gonna face Baltimore again.

I’d have to think long and hard to remember the last time that overpursuit was this much of a problem for this defense. My God, the gap integrity was almost nonexistent and it often left the backers in a position where they were responsible for two gaps if they weren’t rushing. The Ravens could frequently get a hat on our backers at the next level and Jackson had some wide open running lanes. It was a complete departure for how the Pats typically play mobile quarterbacks.
