It took me some time to understand Harbaugh's rationale.

So it's about the rules, let's say for example Trey Flowers gets cut by the Lions in the 1st year after signing a big contract, we lose that projected 3rd round comp. pick?

Anyway, while we see BB spending a questionable (not for me) 2nd rounder on Sanu, Harbaugh in a championship year is going completely backwards with that messed up logic.

From the Ravens POV, they traded Bethel for a 4th round pick.

From the Pats POV, they traded Jordan Richards for Bethel.

Predictably, the Ravens fans are whining about the pickup, saying that they only picked him up for “intel” and that they will likely cut him after the Pats-Ravens game....rinse, repeat. Same exact thing that the Jets fans were saying after the Pats picked up Woodhead. They are too mind-f*cked by the Pats to realize that they don’t need any intel on other teams.

OMFG, if that happened and a decent TE made it through waivers to the Patriots, BB would need a small army for personal security because NFL fandom in general would literally become unhinged, deranged, psychotic, and an acute danger to BB. Bridges and skyscrapers would be filled with jumpers, mental health hospitals would overflow, street corner opiod sales would explode, alcoholism, crime, terrorism, civil unrest.
Do we really want that on our consciences just so we have a solid TE??

The Titans announced the release of Brent Urban on Saturday morning, which is what caused the Ravens to have to cut Bethel to get a comp pick. They could have cut Bethel yet on Saturday since the Urban news came out well before 4:00, but either way it was smart to not play him on Sunday and risk an injury that would have sent him to IR and cost them that comp pick.

The potential reasons to not cut him yet on Saturday include avoiding paying an additional roster salary since Bethel was getting paid for the week anyway, not yet knowing which practice squad player they wanted to promote, or maybe even that the desired practice squad replacement didn’t make the trip to Seattle.

Can you please explain this more? Why does the Titans releasing Urban take away the compensatory pick from the Ravens? Does the player being released devalue them?
