The team currently has only one first round pick from 2013-2019 currently on the team and active.

2013 first round pick - None
2014 first round pick - None
2015 first round pick - None
2016 first round pick - None
2017 first round pick - None
2018 first round picks - Wynn (IR), Michel
2019 first round pick - Harry (IR)

And the second round really isn't any better:

2013 - Collins
2014 - None
2015 - None
2016 - None
2017 - None
2018 - None
2019 - Williams

I doubt you'll find that to be like every other team. The team's had some down drafts in recent years, particularly at the top.

Average draft position plays a part in this a well. But you definitely would like to more success early in the draft.

So currently, Cunningham is our backup tackle that is on the roster? I'm not counting Skipper since he is on the PS. Cunningham is a young guy right? He hasn't hit his ceiling yet?

In three of those 5 years, they had no pick 1st round pick. In 2015, he took Jimmy in the second round and the only reason he’s not here is that they have Brady. And Trade Bill got, like, 632 draft picks for him.

I think we have to take a more comprehensive look at drafting, but BB would probably agree that they could do better in the early rounds.

Yeah Garcia and his red flag history of blood clots in his lungs.

And Cajuste who was available where he was available because teams knew he would miss time.

Remind me how we ended up with Cannon again?

I am sure that BB also specifically signed lineman in the offseason so they could retire as Patriots.
Did Garcia have blood clot issues BEFORE being drafted?
I thought they happened during his rookie camp.

Eye Opening.

I like the Harry Pick but A.J. Brown would have been my First choice. He would look really good in this Offense now.

The Patriots have another guy on the NFI list this guy Yodny Cajuste he has to be better than that retread Marshall Newhouse.

BTW- Dan Skipper is still practicing every day with the Pats. Maybe he's getting better.

Yikes:eek: so our Brass thinks Ryan Izzo TE in name only is better?? Smoke and mirrors can't hide Izzo's deficiencies. I would have kept the extra Lineman.
When I watch Izzo, I see a guy whos not great blocking but looks fluid running his routes and has good hands when he gets the ball.

Ok we all agree Izzo is not a #1 TE, but yesterday he got 68% of the snaps, most on the team. That's too much!

Izzo had a bad couple of games, but he's had too much responsibility. Izzo is a #3 TE currently, and not a bad one, with upside.

Izzo is in over his head, but not a bad player.

2016 1st rounder was stolen by the league

Eh, look at the actual times we had picks in that timeframe rather than the intentionally misleading post by someone who tried to cast BB as an awful GM right before we went to 4 out of 5 SBs and won 3 of them. Also notice the cherry picking of years to leave out the 4 1st round picks we made before the range Mr. Bad Faith Argument chose where we landed McCourty, Hightower, Chandler Jones, and Nate Solder.

Easley didn't pan out. Brown was a sub par starter/role player. Wynn needs to get onto the field but if he can he would grade out as a solid 1st rounder. Michel had a fantastic rookie season and Harry was put on IR when we had a glut of veteran talent at WR while dealing with a hammy.

Hardly a damning series of 1st round draft picks. But some people just hate all the success we've gotten from BB, I guess, and are on a quest to cast him as an idiot.

I'll break this down into two parts, for readability and response purposes.

I pointed to the dearth of top picks on the squad. What you're doing is attempting to justify that dearth, which is fine as far as it goes. One could say, for example, "But JAG!", and someone's response could obviously be "Waste of a pick. Why the hell were they drafting QB in round 2 when they had major need at other positions?", and that would make, and has made, for good and legitimate debates. But the "why" of it is irrelevant when we're specifically discussing the "what" of it.

As for the "early rounds" issue, how deep into the draft do you really need to go? Round 3:

2013 - Ryan, Harmon
2014 - None
2015 - None
2016 - Thuney
2017 - Rivers (IR)
2018 - None
2019 - Winovich, Harris, Cajuste

Round 4:

2013 - None
2014 - White
2015 - Mason
2016 - None
2017 - Wise
2018 - None
2019 - Stidham, Frodholt (IR)

To be continued....

Continued from above...*

Round 5:

2013 - None
2014 - None
2015 - Cardona
2016 - None
2017 - None
2018 - Bentley
2019 - Cowart, Bailey

Round 6:

2013 - None
2014 - None
2015 - None
2016 - Karras, Roberts
2017 - None
2018 - None
2019 - None

Round 7:

2013 - None
2014 - None
2015 - None
2016 - None
2017 - None
2018 - Izzo
2019 - None

The truth is that the team hit a down patch when it comes to the draft. It happens. I think it's fair to say that BB's Patriots draft history has had 2 boom cycles and 2 down cycles. That doesn't make the team lousy at drafting. It makes the team pretty much like everyone else. What's probably been the biggest difference about this down cycle has been the relative absence of the first round success. The reasons for that absence are varied, but the end result is the same.

*Note: Any missed player(s) would be solely due to unintentional error on my part, as I pulled the data by going over the draft, player by player.

I expect the tryouts to continue. If we can go with these 8, then we could go for these 8 with upgrades for Ferentz and/or Cunningham.

OT: Cannon, Newhouse, Cunningham
C: Karras, Ferentz
OG: Thuney, Mason, Eluemunor
So currently, Cunningham is our backup tackle that is on the roster? I'm not counting Skipper since he is on the PS. Cunningham is a young guy right? He hasn't hit his ceiling yet?
