Patriots Sign QB Kessler

Kesslers first NFL career pass was to a player in the same color jersey.
Triumph’s first pass was to a dude in a dress. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

He's had 12 starts and thrown 5 picks, on some real dogshit teams. I was high on him coming out, and think he'll be a competent backup. And he's only a couple of years older than Stidham.
Hoyer very lite.

does not need to be the number 1 pick just first round.

Maybe package some picks to a team who already has a new high draft QB, but are not great yet, get their first. I don't want the Pats to be 2-14 ever again.

I guess we will be solid without Brady. Depends if our draft picks hit. Maybe 8-9 wins and draft slot 15-20. Then trade up 10 spots to 7-10 and we could get a very good QB

Hoyer very lite.
Maybe not so light. Hoyer's got experience on him, but he was never as accurate as this guy. Hoyer is less injury-prone as well (Kessler definitely qualifies as injury-prone).

I don't see it as a direct indictment on Stidham, Thats way too knee jerk for BB and team to do. Maybe they do want to push him a little but thats about it IMO.

As Reiss said they need someone to handle scout team reps.

I also think they don't want to bring up anyone from the PS as they don't want to subject them to waivers yet (or don't really need them)

Don't buy Reiss' take on that. Too many seasons the team has run with 2 QBs.

It's not necessarily an indictment on Stidham, he's not going anywhere, but I don't think he'll be seeing live bullets unless there's a severe emergency this season.

Hoyer lite, and cheaper

Unless folks are sold on Stidham as the future, it can't hurt to have another backup.

So was Stidham's. What is your point (aside from the one atop your head)?

I expect Brady to be "limited" a lot in practice for the rest of his career. Makes sense.

I also wish that he would be better about coming out of games that are already won. For HIS sake, not the team's.

Well he's 3rd string now, so he can run the scout team all he wants.

I'm not saying cut him (unless you thought you could get him through to the practice squad), I'm just saying Kessler's not a rental, he's here to stay too, and they can duke it out next August.

I have no access to how Stidham looks in practice relative to what the team's exceptions for him were. So kinda pointless to speculate but I would be shocked if the 3-4 snaps he had actually changed anything in BB's plan.

The evaluation will always be based how he looks every day in practice and not the handful of snaps in mop up duty.

New practice squad TE also.

Brissett is a special case. I am convinced they drafted Brissett to fill one specific need: QB2 in weeks 1 through 4 of 2016. What happened beyond that . . . I think they took a "we'll see" attitude.

Entirely possible. That being said what we do know is that he didn't show the expected improvement from during his second camp and the team didn't had the patience to wait for that.

Seems like 2.5 years later with the Colts he finally starts to look like a competent NFL QB. At least so far..

Don’t think of him as if he’s going to play. It’s practice.

They had one, and he knew the full offense, unlike Kessler. They got rid of that guy. So we need to look elsewhere for the answer here. "They just want to have 3QBs" doesn't hold up to scrutiny.

MCI is such a dumbass.

It's just to give Brady some rest, because of his calf injury. Stidham moves to #1 and Kessler takes over scout team.
No, no. Someone already challenged him on whether it's true or not and he responded by saying he googled it. Dumn ass clicked on the one result that came up which was his own tweet and said he found proof that backs him up on the internet.

A couple of thoughts:

1. Bringing in a QB to make sure Stidham gets practice snaps working with the offense and not just running the scout team DOES make sense. I have been cheering for a QB addition to the PS since day one.

2. Though I'm having a bit of a problem with the fact he's being signed to the 53. It could be he's added to the roster for just this week and will then go to the PS afterward. Anyone have clear info on PS eligibility?

3. I don't understand the ferocity of the damning of Stidham after his play in the Jets game. He threw 3 passes. The first 2 were accurate completions the last was an overthrow that ended with a horrible result. But in the end it was just ONE overthrow, Any yet several here make it sound like the play was an unpardonable sin. Seems like a terrible overreaction to me, While I was reading the thread it was almost like being on a "game day" thread.

The kid was 61 of 90 in the preseason. 67% completion rate. 4 TD's one pick Pretty good for a rookie we ALL thought. The overthrow was a pass that no one would have given a second thought to if Adams hadn't been in the area and it dropped incomplete.

4. My GUESS is that Kessler is relegated to the PS (if eligible) after this week. Nice payday for him though?

Brady wants Wednesday off like last year.
