I just hope the leash is short

I can't imagine it isn't...from pure football/talent perspective it makes total sense. But I just hope he doesn't f up the chemistry of this team. There is only one football to go around and to quote his former GM, he has to be all in on winning or he needs to be gone fast after the first time he goes rogue!

I'm looking at this as analogous to Revis. I didn't like him either but recognized his talent. Never think of him as a Patriot, just a useful transient mercenary who had the tremendous side value of delivering a crap-ton of agro to a very annoying team. If he works out, that's nice. The fact that this bores so far under Pittsburgh's skin is the key element of entertainment for me.

Btw, was it AB who did the commercial with Butler chasing him all around?
It was. AB & Malcom Butler in a VISA/pizza commercial, if I remember correctly- I liked the ad. Lol

He’s our bastard now :D
Yep. Hes wearing the uniform and paid to help win football games for the NEP.

As long as he stays true to that, welcome aboard.

Way late to this party and trying to wrap my head around it. It was a fun mental exercise to think about AB on the Pats with all the bells and whistles, but it was fun because I KNEW it wasn't going to happen. The money wasn't there, the risks were too great, we had a good if unspectacular group of WR's already. There were several other teams that made more sense. AND then.....he's here.

That's a lot to take in and I'm not going to go through the 20 odd pages that have already been written, so pardon if my 5 questions have already been asked/or discussed.

1. How do you fit a $15MM (9 guaranteed) contract in a $6MM cap space? In on of the last 2 pages no less a personage than Miguel was wondering the same thing. Has there been any news on this.

2. Who goes. I imagine that who is ever on the roster will stay on the roster until after the game but who will face the axe. Gunner probably. I don't think it will be Dorsett because they'd have to pay him his full salary if he plays.

3. How long will it take him to get integrated into the offense and at what position?

4. How will this button down locker room respond to such a mega personality.

5. What will Bill's first words to the media be?....and when?

In the end, this happened too fast. I'm completely not sure exactly how I feel. In some respects we all must feel like KC fans when they found out Hill was coming back, only not quite as slimy. Brown might be bat sh!t crazy, but he isn't a wife beater and child abuser.

I think I'm just going to put this to one side and address it again come Monday. But then SOME clarity will occur....I hope.

BTW, AB led the league in TD receptions with 15 last year despite being suspended for the last game.......

I don’t become fans of people because they changed their jersey. An hour ago, everyone hated this dude.

I’ll root for the Patriots but he’s a scumbag.
I didn't hate him. I thought he was a little crazy and said he needed one more fall out with another team before BB goes after him. I was wrong. I hope BB is right. What bad could happen is at the back of my head but I'm just going to enjoy this moment and ride the wave while it lasts.

There is no question this is a risk. Both financially, cap-wise and for locker room harmony.

If it works out....They are scoring 40 a game.

If it doesn't, they cut him and we move on.

I think the only thing that can stop the Pats is a team with a good pass rush, particularly up the middle, that attacks Karras. If Karras can hold up and we run the ball more than we did in 2007...it could be one of the greatest showings in NFL history.

in 07 Moss had the entire off season, and OTAs and Pre-season to prove he was not going to be a jerk. I know this has a lot of upside, but the season starts tomorrow,

He was the biggest nut case spectacle I have seen in sports up until this morning, and the season starts tomorrow. Moss had many months with the team, the workers, the coaches, all of it before game 1.

I'm a little concerned that he may expect special treatment and I sure hope not.

we will see, I am sure Bill and Drew had a talk with him before he signed. Bill must have alot of confidence he can hold it together for a year.

whats the worst case scenario? we cut him if he acts up? best case scenario we have a top 5 receiver to pair with Gordon and Edelman whom is highly motivated for a season.

Man look at the thread title, I would expect content about Brown being a Patriot from post #1, yet the posts until page 9 are all from yesterday. This merging sucks. It happens every time when there's a hot topic.

Sometimes you have to break the conversation between pre and post some random fact like this signing. If there are multiple threads, just delete them and leave one.

I wonder: will he make it through to his first eligible game in Miami. Hey that's a whole week away.

1st time i've really taken more than 3 seconds to look at his stats.

Beyond HoF caliber #s, what is up with his comp % going down 3 straight years?

Patriots are just waiting on a disgruntled center...

I’m sure one of the Pounceys can get themselves released, maybe show up with a AH jersey? That should get the job done. :D

Can someone clear this up for me, I'm sure but not sure it was Brown may have been OBJ but should the player not play a down for his new team then the picks are sent back for the trade. Help me out guys, I'm sure I read that recently somewhere.

This could back fire badly also... just saying. Unless he was faking all this crap, he could be very insubordinate
Do you fake all your crap?

At this point, Harry may end up on permanent IR...really he's not going to get any targets unless there is an injury to Brown, Gordon, or Edelman. I would wait until the last possible moment before shelving him for the season though.

As a late arrival to the team, what avenue of gripe is he going to have?

  • I deserve more passes than Edelman, the SB MV...... nevermind.
  • I didn't screw up that play. The greatest QB in the histo..... nevermind.
  • That play, called and executed by Tom Brady and Josh Mc... nevermind.
  • I can't believe my coach, one of the very best in the history of the entire game, would call... nevermind

Im pretty sure id die laughing if we send him out for the coin toss tomorrow night. That alone may be more hilarious than Tomlin listening to Zo light him up on the broadcast over his headset.

This moment may be worth the deflategate sham.

My answers:

Yes, let's see what Miguel says. I wondered the same, but I think we gave him Gronk's money basically.

Gunner is the odd man out, IMO. Gunner's value was as a PR..and AB/Edelman can do it.

Won't take him long to get integrated into the offense. Heck, just let him run loose out there and Brady will find him.

The locker room will be just fine, IMO.

Bill will talk about AB on Tuesday, IMO. Tomorrow night, he will shut down the press and insist upon speaking about the game vs. the Steelers only.
