Demaryius Thomas Re-Signed to 1-Year Deal with Harry on IR

He is the 4th or 5th best wr. He has been so-so as a 3/4 and struggled mightily as a 2.
There is just no reason to believe he is ahead of Thomas and Gordon on the depth chart.
It’s like predicting Bentley will play ahead of Hightower.

Keep in mind that he has literally attended everything - all spring and all summer.
No injuries to overcome and and no suspensions to be reinstated from.

Glad DT is back. Sucks to see Harry go to IR.

One point of contention. Dorsett has been an exceptional 4 (even 3). Filled in nicely last year week 1. Had top 10 hands in the NFL last year and was clutch in the playoffs. His numbers were right in line for what he was supposed to do and he is never injured.
The offense struggled mightily when it relied on him. He was benched until we pretty much ran out of receivers. Sure as wr4 he can name some plays.

But those players are available now

Yes we need to worry that a 9 year veteran with almost 700 catches can only exploit scrubs and isn’t able to play against starters so let’s out a rookie or a guy who ended up benched last year out there. That makes a lot of sense
I am sure you understand that the title "starter" is relatively unimportant and that the team has a long season ahead. No?

Yeah, absolutely formidable, with reinforcements mid-season if Harry can heal up properly. DT as your #3 WR is really something. I guess that makes Dorsett the #4 and Meyers the #5?
Not exactly formidable I'm afraid. Harry, unfortunately is likely to be a non-factor this season unless a lot of injuries happen.

If you are reading the tea leaves, I don't think Harry's injury is that bad. He has been practicing with the team if in a somewhat limited way. No I think our wonderboy has slipped a bit on the WR depth chart well behind DT and Gordon. So he became the choice to hit the IR and get DT back to the roster.

He will now get 8 weeks to get into top physical shape, get in a lot of film work, and reappear as depth in the middle of the season. Not exactly what we wanted to see from a #1 pick, but it shouldn't hurt his long term prospects. Despite some people who made 1000 yd projections for this kid, historically even in the best of situations rookie WR's don't fare well in the Pats system. In fact they NEVER fare well. IIRC 500 yds is the top results for any rookie WR and that I think was Dobson who started from the first game and got LOTS of targets.

Glad he's here, sorry it took a first to get him (he IS a WR), and I look forward to him having a long and successful career with the Pats.

“Starters” was in response to another poster claiming we need to dismiss how Thomas player in ps game 4 because it was against scrubs and we can’t rely on him being capable against starters.

That is true but they missed a lot of practice. *IF* Phillip Dorsett is named "starter" during game #1, that will not necessarily carry forward into the next game or the game after that.

For example Ted Karras may start at center for a few games however the new guy (Bodine) may earn that slot with practice.

Dont agree at all. This is a solid group and Harry has nothing to do with this point.

Achilles is a tough thing. He will be a great weapon. Will be nice to see him fully healthy to beat first stringers today. I’m not demanding it from him and am going to be patient with him, given the circumstances. Unlike you, I’m not proclaiming him ready to torch the Steelers in 6 days due to him beating Terrell Stringfield Jr of Burger King last Thursday night.

I hope he does, but my true hope is that he will be there by mid season.

5 minutes ago you had him unemployed until Gordon got caught again so I’ll take your expectations with a few million grains of salt.

A proven top tier veteran coming off an injury going out on the field and dominating is about the player being back, not about low level competition.
But you dug a hole so you have to keep doubling down and digging more furiously to get out right?

That’s not what I wrote and you know it.

I’ve lost what you point is.
You think players won’t be able to play so by default and being the only option dorsett is the #2 for a game?

Where did I ever write that?

It literally is.

Yup. I really like the idea of IR with return nd sandbagging DT as “Gordon insurance.”. He got a really good workout in and test for the heel the other day that seems exceptionally positive.

This is a fine group to start the season with. They all have their unique skills. Looking forward to seeing them work together with Tom against the Steelers...

WR1 Edelman
WR2 Gordon
WR3 Thomas
WR4 Dorsett
WR5 Meyers (inactive)
PR/KR/WR5 Gunner

Wish they hadn’t rushed Harry back in the preseason.
