Demaryius Thomas cut

I don’t not understand the rules. What I don’t get is why he is not on the field practicing with Tom Brady RIGHT NOW preparing to catch passes from him in less than a week. We could use him this week. I and others who agree with me don’t need a lesson in the rule book. Relax.

So I guess it needs to be explained to you again, even though its been explained multiple times with multiple reasons given?

Why would he stay around under those circumstances?
“Hey we aren’t going to pay you but we think we might need you at some point in the future. So just ignore all the other teams willing to pay you and sure out the season until we decide we want you around”
Isnt exactly that happening right now?

This is why I think there are 2 possibilities.
1) he is back by Tuesday practice.
2) he suffered some relapse after playing Thursday and wouldn’t be ready to go this week anyway, so the team can forestall the decision on who to cut
Under scenario 2, they have probably agreed to guarantee his salary because another team would sign him before game 1

First of all we don’t know what is happening.
But when you look at the facts it doesn’t make sense that he agreed to stick around for free as “Gordon insurance” he can go play somewhere else.

Why do you think other teams are willing to pay DT more than the Pats (who have according to Miguel $12+ million in cap space) after he looked good against 4th stringers last Thursday? They may pay him just as much if not more than others would.

For all we know, he knows that heel still needs a few weeks to be up for a long season against actual professional secondaries.

Teams have expressed interest and he is clearly recovered and a starting caliber wr.
Why do you think he will sit around unemployed waiting for Gordon to get suspended?

I think he would for a few days but I cant see it longer term. Also, you/me/we, dont know whats going on (in DTs) head. Maybe his foot is just sore and he wants to play with TB and Josh and BB and has lots of money in the bank and is willing to just stand by while the Pats sort out some things.

If his Achilles flared up do you think he could start anywhere?

I agree short term.
The other poster suggested he sit around long term as “Gordon insurance”. He has other options which include getting a lot of playing time on other teams.

His foot may have not responded well. And/or he would rather play for the pats anyway even if its less money. Not unprecedented

We don’t know his Achilles flared up.
He could get paid elsewhere while he mends.

The entire concept of staying with the Pats revolves around it being a short term release. He isn’t in the league for charity.

We also dont know other teams interest in DT nor do we know how badly he wants to play for the pats or if they had discussed a much better contract with him. The "don't knows" work both ways.

Fair enough?

So you think that other teams want to sign him but he said no, I’m going to stick with the team that cut me and told me to stick around until josh Gordon gets suspended?
Ok, but if you ever want to buy some swamp land look me up.

What team has expressed interest?

(All I’ve seen is the unsourced Mike Florio clickbait musing about the Broncos)

Not when you extend it to he doesn’t ha r a job here unless Gordon gets suspended and he likes that better than playing football.

Wait, how did Gordon get in this? Why cant they both be on the team? When did I say I think other teams what to sign him?

I am confused?

Denver has. I am sure many teams have. The jets signed Braxton freaking berrios.
Are you seriously telling me that your belief is that the best job Demaryius Thomas can find is “you have to sit in unemployment and hope josh Gordon gets suspended”?

The poster I responded to said the Thomas is sitting on the sidelines as “Gordon insurance”.

DT's coming off a horrible injury that you have speculated he might not be ready after playing game 4.

Maybe he looks at this as a rehab year, which he could do best with the Pats using him in a conservative manner, both player and team have agreed on.

If he takes more money there will be more pressure to produce now and maybe DT feels it's best to play it slow until November, look good in the playoffs, and then cash in like many guys have done.

DT seems like a smart guy and it's a reasonable plan. That's why (and also based on the reporting) I think he's safe.

Well I diddnt say that. I suppose he could have been when they signed him before JG got re-instated.
