David Andrews hospitalized for blood clots (merged)

Plane trips are a risk factor as well

Football is of no importance to David and his family right now.

I was found to have blood clots in my right leg several years ago. Vascular surgeon said main thing was to stabilize to avoid clots going to your lungs which could result in an embolism and kill you. This sh*ts serious. He's not in a hospital just for observation.
I’m glad you’re ok now.

What were your symptoms? I’m just curious and with all of the flying I do I am thinking about developing some psychosomatic symptoms.

Last plane ride I was on was for around 5 hours. I walked up and down the plane every hour because I was paranoid. I’m a tall guy so sitting on a plane is tough. People probably thought I was nuts.

HFS! I hope he's okay.

Regards,
Chris

They put me on Pradaxa for 6 months and had to wear compression sock. They stabilized and blood flow in vein improved. They never go away. Leg still swells if I sit for too long. I'm ok but it generally sucks.

Can't imagine what he's going through if already in his lungs. Thing is they don't know what causes them, anybody can get them.
How old were you when this happened?

And someone who plays in one of the most physically intense positions in major professional sports is probably more susceptible than others.
Idk Dr. told me athletes get them, but you can also get them by sitting on a very long flight. Very scary.

In all honesty, with the new oral agents, if all goes well, he will be out of the hospital soon and he likely will feel well soon. So he probably will wonder about his career sooner than you think.

May be the result of trauma to a lower extremity such as a calf, followed by the plane ride. The clot forms in the calf and then breaks loose, ends up in the lung. Unless he has an underlying risk factor, an "unprovoked" blood clot requires six months of blood thinners. He could be back next year, unless they find a reason he's at an increased risk, such as a family related syndrome or such.

Could be either - without an identifiable risk factor like surgery, treatment is longer. There are also congenital clotting disorders in a minority of cases.
Is it different that it is a clot in the lung vs elsewhere?
Meaning in terms of cause and likelihood if recurrence?

Probably stared elsewhere and traveled to the lung. Typically the lower leg or pelvis.

Man, that sucks. I hope he gets past all this and back to 100%. Football is by far a secondary concern for him right now.

As far as the team goes? Odd-numbered year.

My leg swelled up like a piece of ham. Went to Dr. who misdiagnosed and put me on steroids (he thought it was some type of cyst). After a week it got worse. PA girl sent me to get ultrasound. Once lab got results the lady told me I should go to ER asap.

I went to see specialist after that.

Tony Garcia said the medication he was on prevented him from having contact.

And he lost a lot of weight.

Are all blood clots in the lung the same?

best wishes for a recovery that lets him lead a long life. Does this mean Brady will play some of the the 4th game so he and the center to be named later get some game speed reps?

Don't really feel comfortable talking about his replacement here. Maybe in another thread...idk.
