Why the hell wouldn’t Meyers make the team??? All the kid has done is produce. Yeah, he had a few hiccups, but he’s definitely been effective especially considering his draft position (or lack thereof). We need youth at the position anyway.

Reid is a ***** ass punk. Dirty and late as all hell.

No kidding. He is on the team.

The fact that he’s taking first team reps means he’s on the team. The guys fighting for roster spots are the ones who only played only in 2nd half and will play in the 4th game.

Edelman has returned punts every year he's been in the league (except his lost season, of course, per an earlier respondent). I don't see anyone who's in a position to be taking that job from him, at this time.

Doesn’t Edelman have the best PR avg in history?

Of course we might be looking to protect Edelman from injury as he gets older. It can be a dangerous role.

I know this is a terrible thing to say, but...a couple of times the tv showed a shot of Stidham's face in his helmet and I gave a start, certain it was Mark Sanchez. <shudder>

Stidham is white and his face has not yet been graced by a butt.

Danny Amendola had a stretch where he had 3 straight injuries from punt returns. Anyone claiming that it doesn’t increase the odds of getting hurt is kidding themselves. There are 11 people running full speed, bodies flying, etc. No, it’s not as dangerous as a kickoff return, but I think that a strong argument can be made that it’s more dangerous than running a route as a WR.

As always, Belichick will use the players that give him the best chance to win, but I don’t think he’d be too disappointed if we had another option, too. Just like with Amendola, Jules would still be the “hands guy” fielding and fair catching inside of the 20 yard line.

It's also a case of letting your aging, superstar receiver take less of a beating. As a WR, you only get hit when you make a catch. As a PR, you get hit every other punt, and with this D, there will be lots of punts. BB will want to save Jules for key returns. He'll be out there in January, but somebody else will be given a chance during most of the regular season. Hopefully, Gunner has a role as a gunner and is then available to return kicks.

I pointed that out in the game thread about Meyers.. just a wake up wet-slap in the face as to what NFL speed is really like. He now knows he can't just get by on talent and has to put out nothing less than 100%, especially on route running.

The fastest way to Brady's doghouse is to quit on a route which he did last night. He'll be busy digging himself out of a hole right about now.

My Deutschland correspondent tells me that Bastikus (Sebastian Vollmer + Markus Kuhn) were an amazing announcer duo, using the U.S. ad breaks to explain technique and formations to the viewers (the broadcast was streamed in German from Patriots.com). Zo and Socci weren't so insightful. They didn't even notice the Panthers players (at least, the Titans announcers tried to remember the Pats' names, even though they got them wrong!) Unfortunately, someone let Zo know that his mike was live and his comments being streamed even when the main broadcast was off-air, which took away the most entertaining bit. Still, not having Andy Hart in the "Bob's Discount Furniture Studio" was addition by subtraction.
