Brady contract situation (Merged - UPDATED:Deal Done)

just like the $27M was fake this year

Should Brady want to play, they will renegotiate again next year, with a cap in the $20M - $30M range. But make no mistake, Brady's compensation is much high than before (which is fine). If Brady plays next year, he'll probably get his $30M.

I don't think he really cares.

If that turns out to be true, those of you who listen to 98.5 might want to listen to a music or news station for a couple of days.

Hahahaha

Can someone definitively say if Brady is guaranteed to be a FA or not

I mean, it sure sounds like it, unless they’d reach a new agreement sometime between when the season is over and before mid-March, when FA usually kicks off.

If it automatically voids on the last day of the league year and the team cannot franchise him, the only options would be to re-do another deal or allow him to hit free agency.

That’s especially ironic because Brees has the same type of contract that voids after this year. Both players are going to re-sign if the teams still want them. The issue would be if the team believes the player is done and the player believes he isn’t.
Yea I think Curran was fed some bad intel

It does seem Tom isn't exactly thrilled with the deal but it was he himself who said they are in a unique situation.

Tom Brady in a contract year? Buckle in fellas, this should be fun!!

:D:D

I can’t imagine Brady is happy with this situation. Looks like Bill is basically telling him if you have a 2015 Manning year you’re out. I just wish we had drafted someone this year to be ready for next year in case Brady did get forced out the door.

Yes, I read this morning that Brees has been in a voidable contract situation for each of the last 3 years. I've done a little surfing both online and on tv this morning and the media perception I've seen outside of this area seems to be generally summarized by Golic, Sr. on ESPN who claimed this is a "non-story" and that Brady "isn't going anywhere.". Anything's possible, but the hand-wringing does seem to be more prevalent around here.

Sounds like season is over the same day free agency begins, March 18 at 4 pm. They would have between Mar-16 and Mar-18 to cut a new deal.

I expect when the timing is right they will give Stidham the opportunity and sign a veteran QB.

I'm sorry smessy with all due respect, you are making TB sound like he is a rookie. Do you really believe that after 20 years with Belichick and the Pats that Brady can't walk into any camp and learn their system? Are you implying that Tom Brady would pull a Reggie Wayne? This is the most competitive human being on the planet. He'll not only learn the system, he'll probably excel in it just to prove the detractors wrong (again).

We've heard a million times how BB rather let a player go earlier rather than later. He's done it over and over, with good veteran players. This is a business. Brady knows this. He just said it. We can all pretend the Pats are this big happy family but they are nothing but a business.

As far as finding a team that will hire Brady for a year or 2, there will be plenty, and they will pay more than the Pats are willing to pay. I mean Broncos hired Flacco (who at least has a SB). There are plenty of dumb desperate teams out there with money.

Not saying this is going to happen, but if it does, it wouldn't surprise me.

Hey Venecol, have you heard Brady will be 43 when he can become a free agent next year and has a wife that is afraid for his well being and safety?

I never said he couldn’t mentally do it.

But it is not ever going to happen for a myriad of reasons. It just isn’t. And if you think about it in human terms instead of chess piece terms you’d understand too.

Reality.

Bold Prediction: Brady will either play in NE, play elsewhere or retire next year. Bank on it ;)

You got 2 out of 3.

Gisele won’t let him try with another team at 43. She looks at Kraft/Scar/McDaniels as the closest thing to protectors available. She probably doesn’t trust BB.

Just ain’t happening. Not at 43. The risk (of injury, of going 7-9 with a crap franchise that is actually so bad that they are desperate enough to beg Brady to play for them just for the marketing value - think the type of coaching staff, players, executives work for a franchise that would gamble $30+ million on a 43 yr old qb from a different system. You can find people like that at 3am in Everett trying to get into the Encore.

Being facetious. Thanks though! You are correct.

That’s especially ironic because Brees has the same type of contract that voids after this year. Both players are going to re-sign if the teams still want them. The issue would be if the team believes the player is done and the player believes he isn’t.

The glaring difference between the two situations is that:
1) Brady is a financially solvent near billionaire with a 6 Ring legacy that will never be matched and a wife that desperately wants him to retire
2). Brees is one of 30+ qbs who have won a SB and a great career stat sheet (he’s a Dan Fouts+1) and just lost $15 million in a diamond jewelry scam.

Brees is also 1.5 years younger.

Brady plays for a team with the best OC in the NFL and a D and stable of RBs that take a lot of pressure of him and allow him (at his stage, like his first few years) to be a “game manager”.

Brees plays arena dome football and has to score at least 30 points per game with an average defense. The Saints didn’t just give Michael Thomas $100 million to have Brees hand off to RBs all year.

I’d say their situations are not quite comparable.

All this talk about Brady's contract. What the faulk is this soap opera stuff? He is playing this year, we will see how it goes and maybe he will play next year.

I am more interested in hearing about Jacobi Myers, Harris, Harry, Duke Dawson, the rookie QB, and the rest of the team. All this contract talk sucking the air out of the preseason is pissing me off.

There's nothing stopping them from cutting a new deal prior to March 16. The two day window is the "legal tampering" period where other teams can talk to the player with an expiring contract - likely including Brady (not sure how the voidable years gets treated in this case). He just can't officially sign with anyone other than the Patriots prior to March 18.

.......among the media trying to get ratings and one or two posters here o_O
