Mike Freeman - Gronk comeback?

This is where your mistake is. A player can be given the roster designation “reserve/retired” without necessarily filing his retirement paperwork.

I neither know nor care whether Gronk filed his retirement papers. All I am saying is the fact that the Patriots got cap relief does not prove that he did.
It's called reserved/retired list for a reason because it's a gray area where players return to the game every season.

There is no retired list where it's a done deal.

@robertweathers what is your point? Are saying Gronk's retirement is a hoax? Stop being so silly!!!

I do not have access to the documents however here are the man's words:

Rob Gronkowski announces his retirement from the NFL on Instagram
A hoax, no.

I truly believe he wants a mental and physical break from the grind of professional football. How long is the question.

Gronk is a flake. There is no doubt about it. I was one those in the, 'hes done' crowd but now I'm not so sure.

Is he "retired" ? I concede that he and the team said/did enough to be put on the reserve/retired list but not for one second am I convinced he is done with football forever because even he doesn't know. He even said it.

How exactly is the league going to give the Pat's cap relief in X amount of $ if there is NO paper record of the transaction?

Snapchat

Come on its the 21st Century.

"It's too high."

"Who gives a ****? It's gone."

Regards,
Chris

You just defeated your own argument.

Hahaha

Get over yourself. Only in your biased mind is there an argument. He has retired. He made a public statement through Instagram and other media sources so the team made an adjustment to their roster and their payroll. Those are the facts. He almost retired a few years ago.

I will concede that I do not have a PDF of his "papers".

Media personalities and fans are speculating that he wants to come back however none of them can provide a statement from the actual player or his agent indicating that he wants to come bask

He is not coming back. How many team workouts (voluntary or involuntary) has he attended?

Do you think this may have something to do with him not coming back:

I see. Ask Barry Sanders and Calvin Johnson about your theory.
O wait a minute - both RETIRED from Detroit and were not signed by the Patriots.

Just out of curiosity, why are you getting so angry here? Some players announce their retirement and stay retired. Others announce their retirement and come back. Gronk is certainly at an age where speculating he may come back isn’t exactly the most absurd scenario one could imagine.

There’s no evidence Gronk filed his paperwork but it doesn’t even really matter because those papers are easy revoked. A team doesn’t need retirement papers to put a player on the reserve/retired list so the cap relief NE so that doesn’t prove anything.

I am not angry. The people that are insisting that it is a fact that he is coming back are the ones emotionally invested in their story. How much of the back and forth banter in this thread have you read? Posters poke at each other all of the time. Most of the time it is good clean jesting.

If both party’s want to get it done so Gronk can play again then it will get done. While I was pretty sure his injuries had taken such a toll that he wouldn’t come back, I am really starting to believe he’s seriously reconsidering walking away from the game. It must be hard to walk away at 29 knowing how much fun it is to play at that level. At this point I’d be shocked if he didn’t come back.

Even though many are speculating a comeback from that post and as fun as that is to think about, I’m confused how you can come to that conclusion and that he’s not starting some other endeavor non football related.

Not sure how folks are taking that post and convinced he's coming back. Am I missing something? Seems to me it could be anything. Maybe he'll be a beekeeper now?

I agree. I thought he was done but now I’m thinking that he will be back at some point.

I have no clue. He's such a flake and a tease.

Part of me even wondered if during he workout last week he wanted Tom to give him a honest assessment if he still had it or not.

I don’t see anything in that postbthat indicates a return to the NFL, it was the comment to Brees that made me reconsider his seriousness about staying away from the game. Gronk has taken an unbelievable beating, and when your body is that broken it makes it much harder to do things that were once easy, and the constant pain grinds on you. And I do speak from experience, 11 broken bones, a spine fusion, and 7 torn ligaments. Any relief from it makes you want to go out and play simply for the pleasure of it. I think Gronk is feeling good for the first time in a long time, and I can definitely see him missing being on the team as the season is approaching. I doubt we will see him in September, but I’m no longer ruling out a mid season return.

Yep. That was basically his attitude last year. He started well. Got hurt ,depressed and was basically limping along all year gutting it out. To your point now he's feeling good and has that bounce in his step again.

Speaking for myself ... just having fun with it. Seriously ...
not playing is going to be harder for him than injury rehab ... I hope he transitions well.

Two questions for anyone that cares or knows:

1) Who are Rob Gronkowski's advisers?

2) Would he consider finishing his degree?

I have it as around a 75% chance that he remains retired. The key to me is what does he do? His name is still hot but his window to capitalize on it is not endless. Does he want to get into movies and do they want him? Wrestling/commentator? He seems like a person that loves action and the spotlight. If he can find it then I doubt he comes back. If things do not pan out and his body cooperates I could see him getting the itch to play mid season and considering a comeback. (that assumes Pats have enough cap space to make it worth while)
