Marino.
Breed’ team did win that SB appearance so there’s that. Also, who knows what would have happened this year if the Saints hadn’t been screwed by that PI non-call in the NFCCG. I think Brees has been amazing, not a Brady but close to it. And yeah, not having a good defense most of the time hurts.

Brees - .586 winning pct
Incorrect.
Yes, Brees won a Super Bowl and has had more postseason success than Marino, but my point is that Brees leads his team to more points in a game just 58% of the time, which is an extremely low mark compared to actual all-time great QBs, many of whom also didn’t field good defenses. It suggests (as does empirical common sense) that a lot of his numbers are inflated by empty yardage and soft zone coverages trading clock time for gimme touchdowns.
I get that Brees has not had a good defense a lot of seasons, but those numbers tend to smooth out, or at least stop becoming massive outliers, over a very long career. In addition, playing a lot of dome and warm weather games should make your defenses look worse just as it boosts your offense. So, taking into account that Quarterback X is Brees’s opponent, and Brees has faced Quarterback X 278 times, with each of them playing in the same conditions, shouldn’t an all-time great QB win a lot more often?
