Pats should have won SB 46

They were still a very good team. People just blow it off as a fluke because their defense was grotesque in the early going but they were the best team in the AFC, courtesy of a dominant passing game. Gronk's best season.
Gronk was hors de combat in that game, so what he and the passing game did with him during the season was irrelevant.

Pats were lucky to even be in this game. Lee Evans probably has recurring nightmares of that would be game winning TD catch dropped.

Packers also laid another egg at home as they looked like they were going to easily defend their NFC championship. But this was the beginning of Rodgers’ choke jobs in big moments.

After seeing so many unbelievable clutch grabs by Edelman and Amendola in crucial games/moments, I become more and more angry about this and firmly on the “fck you that was a bad pass” group. Imperfect pass, sure. Is there anyway Edelman or Amendola don’t make that catch 100 times out of 100 to ice the Super Bowl???

I laugh at anyone who says Welker is their greatest slot/quick/short receiver of the Brady era. Lots of stats, but in terms of legacy, give me Brown, Jules, and Dola. It’s obvious that Belichick, from his comments, does not believe that “clutch” is a myth/random variance in football and thinks certain players perform differently on the biggest stages.

Even if the Pats lost all of their SBs, which would cast a huge cloud of doubt over their legacy, 9 Super Bowl appearances would have been an amazing accomplishment.

6/9 is definitely better than 0/9. :)

4:18....

Nice find. Same play.

Yes, the ball was either thrown better or the timing was better, but it was essentially the same catch and required a mid-route adjustment by Welker to rotate his body. If he’d made the SB catch, no one would be saying “Welker made a spectacular catch and bailed out a bad throw by Brady.” It’s the type of catch difficulty an NFL receiver is expected to make, let alone an all-pro.

Gisele was right.

We just need to win 7 of 10 with Brady and go from there.

P. Manning would have at least 22 championships with the Patriots.

They did not deserve to win this one. Too many mistakes at critical times. Not the mark of a super bowl champion.

First "NFL World" problems.

Chris

"deserve" has nothing to do with it. You either win or you lose. The definitely should have won this game.

Gisele was right.
Also, in SB46 Brady had to throw it to the “wrong” shoulder. If he threw it to the other shoulder it would have been a hospital ball leading Welker right into the oncoming DB.

Welker should have realized that and anticipated the ball coming to the “wrong” shoulder.

Should have, also, has nothing to do with it, unless this is the premise for some Sliders episode or something.

They won two that they should've lost (49 and 51).

They lost two that should've should've won (42 and 46)

All works out in the end.

I’d add 52 to the list of those that they should have won. 600+ yards of offense.

The pass was actually pretty much perfect. There were 3 defenders that had to be accounted for. Brady threw Welker open.
If he tried to hit him in stride it would likely have been broken up by a defender or picked off.

Ultimately, as Bill Parcells used to say..."You are what you are". The Giants won the game period. Ancient history. "Should Have" or "Deserved to" is always for the losers.

Once the game is over its over.
