You would get to see up close how Thornton has aged. Still love him, but his best days are way behind him. Great character guy, vocal leader. Pavelski earned his 'C', but leads more by example. Not a fire up the troops leader. Joe fills that void.

It's weird but in a convoluted way in the long view that trade worked damn well for both teams. Even with the solid production they got out of Sturm the Bruins got hosed in terms of the players received end of it but that wasn't all that was going on there, cap room was a big part of that trade. Joe Thornton is a HoF player and truly one of the games good guys, still loved in Boston to this day but the cap room the B's gained directly led to the acquisition of Chara. Z is a HoF player, also one of the games good guys who's loved in Boston and still playing here just as Joe is still in SJ. The B's won a Cup with Chara and the Sharks got the face of their franchise. I'd have to say when you look at it in it's totality you have to call that a win-win scenario.

With a hard cap you can't pay everybody. I loved Joltin Joe but the B's needed help in a lot of places, the trade gave them transition bandaids and the cap room to bring in Chara. Not too shabby

Considering I was 6 years old when he played for the blues probably not. If I were to root for a player it would be Backes who I actually watched for years.
