2019 Mock Drafts

Edoga is, talent wise, one of the better OTs after that first group . His issue is character. Abrams is worthy of consideration at 32 although I like some other safeties more.

Edoga as a LT makes Isaiah Wynn look like Nate Solder. For me he's a 6th/7th-round LG all day long as the back end of an OL (with the first being a LT or one with LT traits) double-dip.

I learned you can never have too many quality corners and should regularly taking shots at landing an elite one.

That's true in an abstract sense, but I don't know how it squares with Belichick's draft philosophy. His goal is, Improve the team.

The problem is that you can't play all those corners at once. So drafting Murphy would mean cutting into other players' playing time or leaving him on the bench. I just have a hard time seeing how that's a good use of resources. Remember: the Patriots passed on Tom F'ing Brady more than once because they already had three QBs on the roster.

I suppose it could work if the Pats were able to, say, trade Jon Jones (the only one not under contract for at least two more seasons), but even then that would be tough.

Gil Brandt's top 150 was released yesterday and he's certainly one of the top 'in the knows' in the business so it's a useful tool. Here's a 4 round mock based on his board and is me trying to predict what the Pats will do.

32. AJ Brown, WR, Ole Miss

Brandt has him ranked at 33 so the value lines up perfectly. One of the reasons I like Brown so much for the Pats is his versatility. I think he can legitimatly be used at the X, Z and slot and that's something BB will appreciate. If Brown is on he board at 32 in reality, I think he'll be hard to pass on.

Trade 56, 101 to Redskins for 46

46. Chris Lindstrom, OL, Boston College

He's an ideal guy for our zone blocking system, fits the athleticism we tend to draft for OL and potentially could replace Thuney long-term or even challenge David Andrews if necessary. And at 6'4" and 34" arms, could play swing tackle early if necessary. Lindstrom feels like a Patriots guy.

64. Joejuan Williams, CB, Vanderbilt

I've talked about him playing a Brandon Browner role for us and that, I think, might explain the interest. Put him on big WRs (something BB has talked about as a concern) and mobile TEs. Takes Melifonwu's place on the roster potentially.

73. Jace Sternberger, TE, Texas A&M

ASJ takes on the Dwayne Allen role freeing us up to take a TE that will be a genuine threat in the passing game.

97. Mecole Hardman, WR, Georgia

I realise this mock is somewhat offense heavy but that's just how things are falling. AJ Brown is going to be mr reliable at WR for the next few years. Hardman will be Mr dynamic. He's an exciting and explosive piece that McDaniels can manufacture touches for and provides a deep threat. He also gives us a much needed punt returner. Assuming Brown and Hardman hit, which is a stretch probably, can you imagine a WR corps of Gordon, Brown and Hardman moving forward. That has to get you excited.

128. Kingsley Keke, DL, Texas A&M

A DE That can shift inside on passing downs. However, at 288lbs, he could probably add weight and become a permanent DT if necessary. Not a pick that excites, but there are flashes of athleticism and pass rushing abilities. Flowers was a fourth round pick made good. Maybe Keke could provide a similar return.

Add in a FA DT like Allen Bailey or a returning Danny Shelton and a swing OT and this would cover most of the bases. Admittedly I haven’t done much to improve the pass rush and QB is still a question mark but this helps fill most of the gaps on a potential final 53 man roster.

Re my mock above. One other option, if AJ Brown is gone at 32 would be to take Lindstrom at 32 and do the same trade up from 56 and take Deebo there. Brown would be my preference but I could get very comfortable with the Deebo option.

I’m sure that as with most things, we’re hybrid. But, certainly on the interior, our O linemen are physically/athletically built for a more athletic zone scheme than for pure power. That’s really what I was getting at.

2.56 best available TE. I picked him over Irv.
2.64 replacement for Cannon.
3.73 Good value here and BB regulary takes DBs early. After next season we could lose 3-4 DBs.
3.97 Excellent value for McLaurin who can contribute on special teams as well. Mclaurin and Brown would be a great haul.
3.101 solid edge addition. Can contribute in the rotation right away.
4.134 Future of Hightower, van Noy and Roberts is uncertain after 2019.

Roster spot locks.

6.205 Undervalued as of right now imo. Comes back from an ACL but should be full go by start of training camp. Can break a 70 yard run in a blink of an eye. We would have to carry 5 RBs but Bolden is probably only for STs so I think BB would do it.

That's part of my point: the other OTs currently in the building besides Cannon & Wynn are trash.
Bill needs to therefore secure not only a veteran LT via trade - because there are none available via free agency - but he also needs to draft one (or 2) with LT experience/traits.

You don't have any concerns moving him outside? He played guard and center the last two seasons. He's certainly got nice size and testing numbers, but expecting a rookie to move from center to LT/RT is a big step. I'm not saying he can't do it, just that I'm less confident than you appear to be in his ability to make the move.

He wouldn't be starting as long as Cannon & Wynn are game-day actives. I'm also still hoping that a vet OT can be acquired during the draft. If both of these wishes come true, then Jordan can learn the LT position while also being the backup at both Center & Guard.
