This is a weird story. Seahawks could conceivably tag him twice before his price tag is out of control (roughly 52 million). Seems like his wife wants him to head to the Meadowlands

Best QB in the league not named Brady, imo.
Nah, Mahomes. Wilson is up there though. Nobody scares me more than Mahomes. And he's only going to get better.

I don't think so.

This was a weird story few months back when it first was reported, but seems like there's too much smoke for there to be something here...this would be the best healthy player to ever jump teams in NFL history..wouldn't it?

It'd be wild if we recruited Wilson in like two years.

Mahomes is going to be a nightmare for a long time. I'm glad we went up against Manning all those years instead of him :D

I’ve only heard the Giants, but if you’re the Jets and he’s good with either team, you have to offer Darnold, don’t you?

I can somewhat understand why the Seahawks are hesitant to extend Wilson. It's the same problem with Aaron Rodgers and Kirk Cousins. When you tie so much money into one position (despite being the most important position), it becomes quite tricky building the best team to compete for the SB. I'm pretty sure the Patriots since 2010 has not ranked in the top 5 as far as QB cap hit goes.

Russell Wilson is pretty damn good though so I think they should just pay him whatever he wants.

They Will not trade Darnold.
Why not? If Darnold ever becomes Wilson, you'd be ecstatic. You can go ahead and get the real thing. He's still fairly young, he's not injury prone, talented as hell and seems to be a good leader (although maybe not if he wants out..?).

Cheaper. That’s where it really begins and ends.

I'm just saying, if I'm the Jets GM, do I latch my career to an unproven young QB or the guy that is the real deal right now?

This will take an hour to view:

Be a shame to break up what they got: go to the playoffs every year, sometimes go to the super bowl, play up to everybody and can beat anyone. I doubt there's any team in the league who sees the Seahawks on their schedule and think it's going to be an easy win.

I would think as GM you give him the average of the top 5? I know it's a fortune.

Average of the top 5? Wilson is going to get a bigger contract than all the existing QB contracts, if only because of salary cap inflation. The only question is how much bigger.

Top 5 QBs get record-breaking contracts every year, but none of them have really gone scorched earth in public to get every single penny out of the team they possibly can. Or sat out until they're traded to the specific team they want to go to. It will be hilarious if Wilson goes that route.

Most likely the Seahawks just fold and give him all the money though. Playing hardball with your franchise QB isn't like playing hardball with a running back or wide receiver, it's a disaster.

Mahomes = Brett Favre, an excellent gunslinger QB. It remains to be seen whether he can win in the playoffs.
