The draft

Good call. Seattle has been looking to gain picks. General manager John Schneider has only 4 picks and has vowed to Trade down "if he can find a partner" for more Draft inventory. I think they approach the Pats. The have "0" 6th or 7th rounders.
We need to come up with a fifth rounder for a "no brainer" WR addition who will be in MY prediction, opening day starter.
This leads up to my preliminary annual DW Toys Trade-A Rama:

Seattle trades:
1stRound #21=800 pts
5th Round #159=27.4 pts

Patriots trades:
1st Round #32=590 pts
3rd Round #73=225 pts
7th Round #246=1 pt

You might consider TE Fant at #21 or the surprise pick and actual Round one WR A.J. Brown.I think ASJ does not eliminate the TE need but allows up more flexibility.

O.K. Follow the bouncing BB trader here.
Arizona trades:
2nd Round #33=580 pts
3rd Round #65=265 pts
QB Josh Rosen

Patriots trades:
1st Round #21=800 pts
2nd Round # 64=270 pts

AZ wants to recoup their Rosen pick to make Murray deal look better to the fan base. They want a #1 pick. Best offered supposedly is 2nd-3rd.
The Pats now own Rosen for cheaper than Hoyer with the potential to be as good as the top three QB's in this class, would own him for three more years cheap, learn under TB, groom him and own him for 225 trade chart points which equates to exactly where this years third round pick #73 was in value. So QB Josh Rosen for a third rounder in essence. What QB can we get in the 3rd round this year with more pending talent?

So the new score board is:
The first pick of the 2nd round #33 (only one back of #32)Oh yeah and we get QB Josh Rosen

2nd Round>
#33 Traded to Redskins for pick #46 in 2nd and pick #76 in 3rd. Skins need a QB and they have 9 picks
#46 Jeffrey Simmons DT Miss. St.(IR candidate of top ten player)
#56 Jonathan Abram S Miss. St. (last year for DMC. RodneyII?))

3rd Round>
#65 Andy Isabella WR U Mass.(WR speed+speed, Special Teams maven)
#76 Jace Sternberger TE Tex. A&M (Can Scar teach him to block some?)
#97 Jaylon Ferguson EDGE Lousiana Tech (45 career sacks)
#101 Michael Deiter OT Wisconsin (swing tackle needed. Three year starter. Cannon is 31 in a few weeks)

4th Round>
#134 Traded to the Bucs for Gerald MCoy DT Why trade if he could become a FA? WHERE DO WE WIND UP ON HIS DANCE CARD AS A FA? We have control over him for three more years with the following two diminishing salary years for actually reasonable dollars (the same $ as Fletcher Cox, less than Suh, less than Flowers)

He's only 31, 2 years younger than Bennett and is a 6 time Pro-Bowler who wants a ring. This is his quote (4-3, 3-4, 5-2, Nose guard, 3-tech, DE, doesn’t matter. Either you can play football or you can’t. PERIOD!!) 6 sacks with inside pressure in 2018. The Bucs are CAP strapped. A fourth rounder might do it.

Bennett, Pennel, Guy and McCoy as our front four is pretty sporty. Might be the best in a decade.

Work in Wise and Rivers and draft another edge rusher. Butler had 3 sacks inside.

5th Round>
#159 Traded to Browns for RFA WR Rishard Higgins from Cleveland as a 5th Round , $2.025 mm RFA Tender. He would be our best WR after Edleman and start. He's only 24 years old and with OBJ and Landry and last year Draft sensation Callaway, I think the Browns do not fight this.

6th Round>
#205 Dru Tranquil OLB Notre Dame (typical Patriot genes. ST guy)

7th Round>
#239 Sione Takitaki OLB BYU (Wild man. ST if anything)
#252 Jalen Hurd WR Baylor (can line up at RB as well ala Patterson. Can do more than one thing)

Thoughts?

Love this mock

I noticed at least one first round mock online that has Matt Patricia and Detroit selecting TE TJ Hockenson and then later on in the first round Mike Vrabel and Tennessee grab Noah Fant.....Guess they learned well from BB the value of the TE.........bahstads :D

Crazy theory time

Is Hakeem Butler the best prospect to replicate what Gronk provided in the passing game; mismatch size, physicality after the catch, RZ threat. Put Butler in the slot and let him eat. Gronk’s game as a receiver was all about mismatches and physicality after the catch much like Butler’s.

Note 1: This is entirely unconnected to Gronk’s role as a blocker.
Note 2: I’m not denying Butler has flaws as a WR. I wish he had better hands for example.

Patricia just paid Jesse James an awful lot of money for him to also be using a 1st Round pick on a tight end. If he does that, I expect it would be for Fant, who wouldn't be as redundant with James.

He actually wasn't a good red zone threat last year which is why, along with his hands/route running/lack of consecutive seasons of high receiving yards (1K yds+), I'm not crazy about him.

Prospect Profile: 2019 NFL Draft WR Stats Report - Fantasy Columns

For me, I think raw stats help fill in the gap to the limited amount of game film available to us on the internet because I thought he would be a red zone monster after watching him play.

The good news is A.J. Brown is a great red zone WR.:)

Love the prospect but not entirely sure what the theory is?
I'd stop looking for any prospect to fill Gronks shoes. Blocking, rec, he's the goat & I think its just not reality to think we'll see the same anytime soon.

Back to Butler. Hes a great representative of the overall class imo. Its a boom or bust class. Has some great physical skills but needs a lot of work. Getting off the line, overall r/r. Hands. Hes a beast but again comparing him to 87 is just a no-go.

Gronk was best offensive player, non-QB pretty much his entire career. Literally no big holes in his skill set.

I explicitly said it wasn’t about blocking.

Lol I didnt only write about blocking which to those that studied Butler is a huge + in his game.
He offers a ton in terms of physicality but Gronk was so much more in terms of r/r & hands.

Again I really like the player just not the comp.

It wasn’t a comp, it was about which prospect could replicate some of Gronk’s production in a similar fashion, namely creating mismatches with DBs and being aggressive and physical after the catch.

I get all that manxman. I guess its when people bring up Gronks name.

His physicality, man vs boy mismatches have been brought up all year so I'm not disagreeing w you there. Probably will end up my WR1.

J/c have you watched Butler? Where would you take him?

Just saw another mock with Dexter Lawrence dropping to the Patriots at #56. This time it was Matt Miller at Bleacher Report. While I’m still not buying it is he really falling?

I can see why someone would take him at 32, he offers something that is rare, but there’s stuff I’m not a fan of. I think he’s a linear athlete and would like to see him do less body catching - he doesn’t always take advantage of his height advantage. I’m not sure where to rank him because he’s not something we’ve really had before. Top 40-50 probably. I was playing with a mock where I. Issued out on my main targets so traded back, took Butler and then traded up from 56 to take Deebo.

He's not falling. At least not by me. The top 15-20 talk was always too much for me.

I have yet to see him in the top 20, he has been 20-30 in most mocks until the last couple of weeks, where I am seeing him everywhere from mid twenties to mid fifties. And while I appreciate your response I’m really asking whether he is dropping as a consensus, and not so much on the individual board’s here. This draft is so volatile it’s really hard to tell.

I’ve seen Hockenson falling in some of the latest mocks. It would be great to get him at 21.

I dont bother w mocks for good reason. I honestly dont find them useful & have had a good idea of who's going Rd 1 for about a year. Just saying its not a surprise or shock to see him slotted there.

This reminds me of when people say players are falling or shooting up the board. Teams grade them & make a choice on where to take them. Besides some ugly info getting out theres nothing happening over the last & next few weeks that will change where a player is going.

His strength is vs. the run and all you hear is "pass-happy" league and "interior pressure," etc.

BB knows better - the playoffs last year proved it. You need to be stout against the run.

Question with Lawrence is: have the other coaches caught up to this, yet? If Lawrence is there at 32 (heck with 56), I wouldn't cry if the Pats leaped all over that.
