I don’t understand some of the logic surrounding this.
I worked past 45 and I saw my kids grow up. And I work year round.
I have been more siucessful in my career than I probably expected I would and there has never been a day where I say “I’m done with this success, time to quit, nothing more to do”.
You and me both had to work are butts off. We had no other choice. Brady and Giselle are multi millionaires. They have a choice. That choice also has to do with Brady’s chance of serious body or head injury in this brutal sport that could effect life after football.
I was a Firefighter for 33 years. Could have stayed another 6 years. I was at full pension and thought to myself. I love my job but if I stay I could lose my life or blow out my back etc. I enjoyed my career but time to enjoy the grandkids while I can.
Brady has accomplished more than any other player in NFL history. He has his health. His wife knows they are financially set for life. I don’t think my philosophy is not far off from Tom and family. Just my take. Anything can happen

Brady? I thought the title was referencing Vinatieri.

Regards,
Chris

For some reason I thought of Eminem's 8 Mile......F' y'all if you doubt me.

Is it me or is the off season dragging on longer than usual??

We’re less than a week from the schedule release and only 13 days out from the draft, so it’s starting to move again.

Before you know it, people will be right back to freaking out about Brady skipping the offseason activities.

As long as it seems now, it used to be longer until the NFL figured a way to make money off it 12 months of the year...

Even now when I listen to sportstalk radio, usually for a very short time, they whine about the RS, Celtics and Bruins but a lot of their time seems to be spent on the Patriots.. Often heard; "lets start off with this Patriots story, for you Celtics, Bruins and Sox fans we will get to you later".

Does a bear sh** in the woods?

I think 45 is pushing it. The problem with age is not even the effort to keep in shape. It's the injuries that occur. The body does not physically recover as quickly. He's one hit away from a much more difficult recovery than he would have as a 20 year old. It's not even a matter of nutrition and training. Heart and lung capacity decrease as you age, muscle fibers decrease, reaction time decreases. Unless you are pumping artificial hormones/testosterone into your body, it's just a fact. All you can do is try to maximize your body but it's at a lower peak capacity each year. At some point, something will happen like a torn rotator and that will be it. By age 50, your lung capacity alone is 50% of what it was when you were 25 (you lose 2% every year after age 25). It's just physiology. The difference in older athletes is better training, medical intervention, and nutrition. The human body is what it is.

"Can Tom Brady play to 50 years old?"

The answer is yes, but "how well, will be the real question?"

So based on 50, and well enough to start, my answer is NO

Tom Brady is pretty good

Great news. Gives us another 5 or 6 years before we need to worry about drafting the next QB.

Gordie Howe played until age 52. In his last season he scored 15 goals and had 26 assists. 23X all-star.

Satchel Paige pitched a game at age 59, though he effectively stopped at age 57 and was still dominant at age 51. A lot of pitchers have been dominant in their mid-40s.

Ok that’s a very reasonable response. It seems to me though brady doesn’t feel that way.
I do not believe that accomplishing more than any player before satisfies him and makes him see any les value in competing for the next one.
And that’s a big part of it IMO. He isn’t going to work, he’s going to fuel his competitive fire. If you had a weekly firefighter competition and you dominated it you may be likely to think sticking around is worthwhile than when your job entailed facing life threatening situations. And your job is 52 weeks a year while his is roughly half that.

I could easily put myself in your place and agree with your decision. But for Brady I think he is playing a game at its highest level and loving it. When he quits it’s over forever. And I just don’t believe anything he has accomplished makes him any less driven to accomplish what comes next.

Thank you for your dedication and altruism as a first responder.
