so claiming that the Patriots could barely move the ball is ludicrous.

I agree that it's not a slam dunk we would have won if Edelman had been healthy, and I put more blame on not having a certain CB than anything else.

But I don't think this data helps your argument. Out of a possible 28 points on the first four drives they earned 6 points. Sure, they gained a lot of yardage, but five times they failed to convert 3rd or 4th downs -- on plays of 3rd and 4, 3rd and 2, 3rd and 5, 4th and 5, and 3rd and 8.

Given everything we've seen of Edelman in the playoffs when he has been healthy, including this year's Super Bowl MVP performance, you can easily make an argument that had he been on the field , we would have converted at least one of those. If you play out those four series a hundred times with Edelman on the field, I'd bet that more than half the time you have another 7 points through some combination of additional scoring (given we left 4, 7, 7, and 4 points on the table respectively).

Of course, there are caveats -- we lost by 8, so 7 isn't enough; who knows how a different score early in the game influences the game down the stretch, whom would Edelman have replaced, etc. But it's a hypothetical scenario, so not really worth that debate IMO.

Still, saying that there is a decent chance that if Edelman played, we would have won, certainly isn't a 'practical absurdity'.

The Patriots have to build up their WR corps. I think everyone agrees on that.

They can patch and play by resigning two of the three FAs, maybe hoping Berrios steps up and/or Gordon comes back. Or grabbing a Danny Amendola if he gets cut. Does Malcolm Mitchell have anything left after another year of recuperation?

I doubt they stick with this route, even if Gronk stays, and I don't think they'll be relying on Gordon coming back (though they'd probably take him back with open arms if he's reinstated - just woun't count on him_.

If I had to pick a dream "get" for them, it would be one of the receivers who fit the mold of an OBJ - Manny Sanders, Antonio Brown...the guys you can't cover 1-1 and who can play inside or outside the hash marks. There aren't many of these elite talents around, and even fewer we could afford. I'm sure they'll get creative, though, and I don't doubt that they're making a play for OBJ.

I would love to see them add Tate and Emmanuel Sanders.

Like if the Patriots or any team we're proven without a doubt to of broke the rules should they be penalized up to losing a championship?
If his reply was simply yes to that context I would understand and agree.
If it was more like how do you feel about the Patriots winning after deflategate and he said they should be stripped of their rings and blah blah well then yes eff him.

The newly sainted Julian Edelman is not perfect. He drops passes in the playoffs. He fails to convert 3rd downs. He doesn't get into the endzone as much as you might think and wish.

For crying out loud, do you people not realize just how freakin' ridiculous the argument about last year's game is? This year, the Patriots managed a whopping 3 points in the first half, and that included multiple punts and a turnover on downs, WITH EDELMAN. Yet, somehow, despite him not being the magic bullet in the first half against the Rams, he was destined to have been that magic bullet against the Eagles, in a game where the Patriots put up 355 yards in the first half? Yes, the notion that he would have been the game changer against Philly is a practical absurdity.

That's a 6-month injury. If Denver cuts him, which is a distinct possibility if they can't trade him, BB would talk to him, without a doubt.

The guy is a Patriots' type of player - he fights for yards, gets separation, plays tough. He checks all the boxes.

Separation is the most important thing for any receiver wanted to shine on the Patriots - that's why I named OBJ, Sanders, Brown - add Tyreek Hill. These are the guys who can't be covered 1-1 except by very elite CBs. These are the kind of players who get on the field and open things up for other players, which means JE/White/Burkhead/Gronk can feast.

And if teams don't give them that blanket safety help in coverage, any of these receivers can take over a game. That's what separates them from "good" receivers.

Agreed, that doesn’t really track. I can see taking another look at a guy flying under the radar if the Pats showed an interest, but this guy is an obvious star, so it wouldn’t be all that noteworthy or eye-opening for them.

Clearly I addressed that when I brought up the first half of this year's game. So, since you can't be bothered to read what's being posted, there's no need to continue this discussion with you.
