Pre Super Bowl Thread- On to the Rams

The Rams make me nervous (it's the playoffs and every team makes me nervous). I usually list out the things I'm concerned with going wrong, so now seems like a good time.

The DL of the Rams. KC's edge rushers hardly got near Brady, but I imagine up the middle pressure will be what the Rams try. We've seen this beat us in Super Bowls before, and Aaron Donald/Suh could move all over to give our OL problems. Our OL has been lights out in the playoffs, I hope it can continue. I don't know how great Talib is playing since coming back, but him and CJ Anderson could use their 2015 AFCCG win as motivation and talking points for the rest of the Rams. And speaking of CJ Anderson, can our DL slow down the roll he's been on? And if we can, do we have to sacrifice a secondary player to do it? Goff will eat that up if we do. Brandin Cooks running wild scares the hell out of me, and Robert Woods has played really well against us before with much worse QB's. Can the Rams D stop James White? They stopped Kamara really well after the first few series. Can they stop our running game with Michel?

Hopeful we can take this one. I'll be watching and cheering. I always talk about things balancing out, and I'm hopeful that enough bad happened during most of the season that the good happening to us now can continue. But I would not be shocked at all if the Rams win this one.

One of those statistical tidbits that make you go, "Hmmm".

Tom Brady has been selected to the Pro Bowl 14 times, but has only actually played in ONE! Mull that one over for a second.

Isn’t it twice? Once after the 01 season and once after 04 which ironically wouldn’t happen now because they played in the super bowl both years.

T Hill is way better than Cooks and the Pats held him to 1 for 42 yards.

Kamara had 111 yards from scrimmage. Hopefully White exceeds that.

On the Tom vs. Donald battle, I know qb pressures are measured by pressure rates but I wonder if anyone has data on avg. time it takes Donald (or the Rams DL) to create pressure to compare with TBs avg. time he releases the ball.

A very important but difficult stat to get.

This year Tom got rid of the ball in 2.61 seconds.
Passing Stats | NFL Next Gen Stats

Not sure but if PFF has any accuracy whatsoever, if he hangs onto the ball more than 2.5 seconds there is no doubt Tom will get hit a handful of times

Donald let the league in sacks and Qb hits.
Aaron Donald didn't get the sack record, but he still had a historic season

Any thoughts on Ram's defensive players covering Gronk, Edelman, RB's (White/Burkhead) out of the backfield? Thinking we will see some new offensive plays. Please do not have Brady catching the ball!

An approximate way of estimating his time would be to tab the #pressures by QB and compare it to those QBs TT from your link. That would not be exactly accurate but would give you an idea of his time.

Actually there is a "Fastest Sack" metric in the NFL Next Gen Stats:

1. Regular: no Rams listed below 2.44 secs;
2. Divisional: Fowler listed at 5.22 sec;
3. Conference: Suh at 3.43 sec.

Obviously this doesn't include hits, etc.

Ah interesting.

I gotta think Donald has gotten to the QB under 3 seconds a bunch of times

More interesting:

Regular: C. Jones (1.95), JJ Watt (2.07), Houston (2.13)
Divisional: Ford (2.54), Houston (3.78), Fowler (5.22)

Pats OL kept Jones, Ford and Houston away from Brady and they had some of the fastest sacks.

I'm feeling better about our OL.

I feel great about our o-line.

Come 4Q Donald's tongue will be hitting his shoelaces.

Ah, the not so subtle message.
