Gronk is the 4th or 5th highest paid TE in football. $9M a year. If Gronk is not on the NEP and played for the Bengals, he might be paid $1M more and be the highest paid TE at $10M, but the Tide Pods and Dunkin commercials don't exist if he is in Cincinnati or other. Gronk is the highest paid TE in football and that is why he blocked a trade. If you believe anything else, then God bless you.
It was clever of you to post and reply to just a portion of my original post. Once again, clever, but disingenuous. My point was, and is, simply this: no one put a gun to either Brady's or Gronkowski's head to sign any contract. They chose to. So, the weepy whining that is all over this board and in the media about how these guys have been victimized and taken advantage of is BS.Gronk is the 4th or 5th highest paid TE in football. $9M a year. They’re going to make some moves. I think that’s reasonable to assume. There are some who need to take a pay cut or go.When it comes to the Patriots this season, it is a case of the grass is greener in our neighbors lawn than us.
I disagree with the top to bottom comment. The cap management is however strange, money is tied up in a few places that I think may be undeserving. I will start with Dwayne Allen.
I really hate this continual whining. Wah, they're better than us everywhere...
What garbage. The Pats' OL is among the best in the league. Young and good tackle to tackle and with solid backups.
DL goes to LAC, but it's not as lopsided as many here think. Trey Flowers is as good as anyone on the field. Both Brown and Shelton are capable of playing much better than they've shown at stretches this year, and Lawrence Guy is severely underrated.
Kyle Van Noy - yeah him - and Hightower are both better than anything LAC puts on the field at LB. KVN has quietly become a very good NE LB.
The Pats secondary is good and deep. There aren't many secondary units I'd trade them for, particularly given their young CBs. The emergence of Jackson seals that deal. Jones is a superb #4, JMac has been stellar, and Gilmore is truly top-end.
Edelman would start on any team in the league. The Pats have three RBs defenses have to account for. Gronk is still better than all but a handful of TEs, and he's shown he can still pull out the younger Gronk now and again. Hogan and Dorsett are under-utilized, but leave them free and watch Brady carve you.
Allen is one of the best blocking TEs in football.
Also, the Pats D philosophy, imo, emphasizes roles over stats. Example one: Chandler Jones. He didn't suddenly turn out to be a great sacker - here, he was asked to do a lot more than that.
Gostowski and Allen are a top-end K/P combination.
NE offense finished 4th in PPG, Chargers 7th. Okay, that's all Brady, right?
Well then, NE defense finished 6th in PPG. Chargers 7th.
If the rosters were that far apart, those above rankings shouldn't be true.
I’m a big fan of Trey Flowers but you got to be a big Pats homer to say he’s as good as Bosa.
“Hogan and Dorsett are under-utilized, but leave them free and watch Brady carve you” Can’t you say that about any receiver in the league? Anyone uncovered and left free will carve you.

I remember when Belichick first came to NE I was discussing the fact that he seems to want to have a roster full of guys making 3Mil and have less highly paid players with a deeper roster. It clearly worked over the years. That's why we can still make a serious run when we lose players while other teams are left out in the dark.
He's as good as Bosa. And I like Bosa a lot.
Not even close. Flowers is very good. Bosa is elite.
You're correct. Back earlier in the season after a couple of good games by Michel, Albie (The Dink) Breer on a local TV post-game show reacted to praise about Michel with the bone-on-bone diagnosis. He was giggling like a guy having an orgasm. And not one person on the set even questioned him about it. They're all eunuchs who are scared ****less of being called "homers."They're all ball-less.Agreed. What I said about Gronk applies to TB too. Just didn't want to type that much. Both guys at the top of their compensation level.
Talk about whinning, how about the Gronk is finished stuff? Where are all of the Sony Michel has "bone-on-bone in his knee" crowd? People in New England love to *****. That is why talk radio here is all negative, because the radio audience hears their anxieties confirmed and keep tuning in.
Wrong. It's far closer than you think. Not even close. Flowers is very good. Bosa is elite.
Disagree, because even when first string is all healthy it doesn’t mean the backups spend all their time on the bench. It means they can rotate and keep everyone fresher for the end of the game. That can negate the advantage of better talent on the opposition when they tire late in the game.OTOH, when we are relatively healthy..it is a disadvantage to leave talent on the bench vs. more of it on the field.
Bosa's work is similar to Chandler Jones over tha last couple of years. Very good, I agree. I saw Chandler Jones here - he wasn't better than Flowers has been.
If they're elite, so is Flowers.
