Rapoport: Dolphins "focused" on Pats' DC Brian Flores

Still unsure who exactly calls the defensive plays. I've heard BB is pretty hands on. Who knows.

There is a reason why BB doesn't teach his assistant coaches everything and this is the reason!

I thought there was a gentlemans agreement with BBs coaching staff that you do not go to a division rival and that was one of the main things Mangini, among others, that got him on BB's bad side. I remember reading somewhere during that time BB advised him not to take the Jets HC job and he did anyway.

If I'm an coach in the NFL I would never go to a team where this was expected. Sure, non-compete clauses exist in the corporate world but you have many, many more options available to you if you choose to leave your current position and go somewhere else. In the NFL you're talking typically what, 5-10 openings and because we're so good there's usually 1-2 AFC East teams in the mix for a new coach.

Those teams are going to have strong interest in rival's coordinators because they are now both adding to the team that is hiring them as well as potentially weakening a division rival.

I just don't think this is viable.

No, BB has a rule about "stealing assistants". I think BB is ok with this as long as Flores doesn't take any Patriots assistants with him to South Florida.

=============

That being said....I HATE this BS...leave our assistants alone!!! Damn it!

Yeah.. don't like this report at all. Hope it doesn't happen.

Shouldnt Miami compensate us for taking one of our coaches...since it is in the division?

Hope Belichick serves as defensive coordinator for next season; I don't see how it could get better than that. Might allow McDaniels to have a bit more autonomy handling the offensive game-plan, better preparing him for a future head-coaching gig.

He should be very careful with this offer. Call me lunatic but the Dolphins can back out of this deal very far in the hiring process just to payback the Patriots for what Josh did last year. I don't doubt that looked bad between the owners inner circle.

Now more into the reality, what's the Dolphins QB situation? That's very important. First year coaches who have less than 4 or 5 wins are being kicked out pretty fast.

Where's the proof of this? Because I think that'd be a really bad sign that BB has forgotten what it was like to climb up the coaching ranks. If he honestly stands in the way of one of his assistants getting a promotion somewhere that's asinine.

What I always thought was that his frustration came from Mangini using the plane ride back from their final game that season to try to recruit. Which I totally get. There's a time and a place for that and it sure as **** isn't a few hours after the final game of the season.

Dear Abby,

Can only the Dolphins name a guy the next Bill Belichick? I was just reading that Gase was The Next Bill Belichick according to the Dolphins owner. Does that make Flores the Next Next Bill Belichick, or Another Next Bill Belichick?

Perplexed in Virginia

You're a lunatic. Why would the Dolphins care "what Josh did"? Why would they waste their time playing games like that when they actually need a coach?

Brian Flores' season this year has been the best in the last few years

I don't think there's anything special about it.

Defense (PPG)
2018: 20.3 (7th)
2017: 19.5 (5th)
2016: 16.4 (1st)
2015: 19.7 (9th)
2014: 19.7 (8th)
2013: 21.4 (10th)

Him leaving would be as big a deal as Matty P leaving, aka not a concern at all.

Adam Gase goes from getting ass kicked with Dolphins to getting ass kicked by Jets
Flores goes from kicking ass with Bill to getting his ass kicked by Bill with Dolphins

Fun AFC East musical chairs.

I would kill to have Schiano here. I think he'd immediately be our best DC since Romeo.

Schiano had 5-star talent at OSU and the defense was one of the weakest of all they power programs.

.

If true they are stupid and if Flores takes the job if offered then he is not getting good advice and will be the next Wilks. Flores can have a bright future, he should make sure he does not dim it too early.

Got it so one down year in college wipes out his entire career and he'll be a dog if we bring him in as DC.
