AFC Divisional: We're on to the Chargers (Beat LA!)

Anthony Lynn seems like a pretty damn good coach.

Seems calm- but intense, thoughtful, collected and they respond to him.

Note: He spent some time in Dallas as Tuna's running backs coach so he's seen what great HC looks like.

I don't like it one bit.

Didn’t he basically get the job because of the Rooney rule? What I’m saying was, they basically only interviewed him with no intention of hiring him but were then really impressed

There have been numerous threads and discussions about the game coming up this weekend. So why not one more to kill some time?

Please post your thoughts on what we need to do to get tihis win.

My thoughts

Our defense has been relatively good this season at home. I hope we can continue that trend and have another dominant defensive performance and restrict chargers to 14 pts or less. On the offensive side, we need to get everyone involved like we did in the Jets game. That was probably the only time this season (may be I missed other games?) when the offense looked as good as previous years.

That said, my biggest concern is that Chargers are playing really good right now and beat one of the best defensive teams in football on the road in playoffs. Ravens' inconsistency on offense also helped Chargers to an extent in the game but Pats will try to score and score fast. If Chargers struggle defensively in the fourth qtr we will win this game.

BB knows more than anyone how to limit opponents' strengths. Hopefully he'll have a good game plan and we can get a win without any injuries.

We'll worry about Chiefs/Colts next week.

GO PATS !!!

Makes sense

Run D will be fine with the right personnel on the field. I'm worried about The 4 man rush getting to Brady and the subpar wide outs we have getting open versus a great secondary. Look for a low scoring game.

This will be the week Bill calls for my advice.
Inactives:

A. Clayburn, DE
K. Davis, DL
D. Dawson, CB
J. Ferentz, OL
U. Kamalu, DL,
O. Melifonwu, S
S. Andersen, TE

I don’t know where they ranked and whether or not it would be considered “good,” but they tend to play more aggressively at home, and it was a divisional opponent to boot. I just don’t know how much we can take from it, that’s all.

It’s a stat for the optimists, but those were three fairly tough games and they were firmly in control of two of them, winning both. Even the loss to the Ravens was a close, one score game until the end.

The most important stat for a QB is wins. If a QB, through a combination of pre-snap checks, post-snap reads, and yes, throwing the football, gets the team inside the five and then the RB gets the TD, the QB did his job. So from that angle, I give Rivers credit for getting the WINS against those good defenses.

That said, you can't tell me that if Tom Brady threw 0 TD's and 4 picks in three games, that people here would let anyone use the defenses he faced as an excuse. Especially if they hadn't topped 23 points in any of the games.

Not to mention that, though I think the Ravens are a very good defense, NO defense in the NFL nowadays is the 85 Bears. There wasn't a dominant defense in the NFL in 2018.

Looking at the Chargers' schedule regarding common opponents:

L.A. played: K.C., @Buffalo, Tennesseee (in London), @Pittsburgh, and @K.C. going 4-1.

N.E. played: K.C., @Buffalo, @ Tennessee, @Pittsburgh, and Buffalo going 3-2.

Looking at the Chargers regarding teams 2018 .500 or better:

L.A. played: K.C., @L.A. Rams, Tennessee (in London), @Seattle, @Pittsburgh, @K.C., and Baltimore going 4-3.

N.E. played: Houston, Indianapolis, @Chicago, @Tennessee, Minnesota, and @Pittsburgh going 4-2.

Looking at the Chargers schedule regarding 2018 playoff teams:

L.A. played: K.C., @L.A. Rams, @Seattle, @K.C., and Baltimore going 2-3.

N.E. played: Houston, Indianapolis, K.C., & @Chicago going 4-0.

I'd guess Rivers inactive instead of Anderson.

If Brady had gone against the NFL’s #1 defense twice in three weeks and sandwiched those games around a trip @Mile High, I most certainly think that people would be bringing it up.

Like I said, we can only hope that Rivers’ trend continues, but I wouldn’t be holding my breath.

I’m not saying Rivers is going to be held to under 200 yards again, but to assume he’s simply going to light our defense up is selling our D short, especially at home.
That’s a fair position to take, although I never even came close to saying anything about lighting our defense up. I pointed to the fact that I didn’t know how much we could take from the last three games and said that I’m not sure that it would continue, that’s all.

I'd guess Rivers inactive instead of Anderson.
Sure, he was on my list too. Rivers had 16 snaps with 2 qb hits last game in a DE rotation. If Andersen were to dress, I'd be surprised if he got more than a handful of snaps. So I see Rivers as having more value, but we don't know anything about what Andersen does in practice ( STs?). Chargers LBs are not good so maybe he's a surprise?

If it looks like a duck and talks like one.
That’s such absolute BS, and such a lame and sh!tty thing to say. I’ve been nothing but respectful to you and your father over the years, and I couldn’t possibly be more engaged in the team everyday.

What a place some of you have turned this into, where we can’t point out the fact that Rivers faced the #1 defense in the league twice in the past three weeks and how that stat probably doesn’t apply to us.

I think the spot to exploit is their LB crew. Lots of throws to backs and don't be surprised if Gronkowski is heavily targeted. I feel Gronk is going to play an important role in this game, blocking or catching passes

This is the toughest home divisional game opponent since when. Baltimore in 2014? Colts in 04? Obviously the Jets beat us in 2010. But they weren't seen as a serious challenge going into the game.

Kellerman doesn't think Brady is capable of leading this team to a SB win. Not that anyone cares lol.

Gronk will likely be blanketed by pro bowl safety Darwin James, or at the very least bracketed. Listening to the Quick Slants podcast, both Curran and Mayo feel that this a game where Gronk may have lots of trouble getting open. Let’s hope not, because we could really use a big performance from him.

Ever heard of 2 TE sets?
