Interesting article on the Pats Character Coach(???), Jack Easterby he had some NFL experience with the Jaguars in the front office, did a similar job with South Carolina College FB and the Chiefs as well.. Character Coach is another name for team chaplain, he was hired after the Hernandez crap.

Surprised that because BB wants a lean and mean coaching staff that he is even on the staff, maybe it was Mr. Kraft who wanted to do this...

Is the Patriots' secret weapon their character coach?

“Character and the kind of people you hire is something that our country is in desperate need to get back to evaluating,” Easterby said. “Unfortunately, sometimes it matters most when we count it the least. And when we evaluate it the least, it matters most. It’s tough, but we have seen a lot of businesses and industries fall because of a lack of character.

“One of the things we’ve seen come up in our culture lately — from the (Harvey) Weinstein case and so many others – we’ve seen that choices matter.”

He must have been the guy staked at Gordons house with sandwiches and a thermos full of coffee.

In my opinion, his employment is a wise business move. As Bill Parcells noted a long time ago, these guys (players) aren't all choir boys. I'd be willing to bet people like Easterby are worth their weight in gold. In the USA Today piece it's interesting to note the wide range of roles he's filled and guys he's helped.

I understand the role and I understand why BB would want such an individual on staff.

As an adult with full time employment, I still have many questions...

It's not a bad idea to have a guy like that on the team as a lot of the players, if not for an overactive pituitary gland, would be pumping gas somewhere.

Wonder if he told the quarterback to skip voluntary team activities or did the quarterback make that decision all by his lonesome....

Seems odd into today's climate to have this in the workplace.

(sigh)
Spoken like a single guy, or at least one at heart. I am sure Mrs Quarterback had no small amount of influence on that decision. Men who truly love their wives and families often make decisions knuckle draggers have a hard time comprehending.

I have to travel for work functions that I never want to go to and that technically aren't "mandatory". Doesn't mean it wouldn't be a bad look if I no-showed.

Given a choice between looks I'd choose the bad look there to a mean one at home.
In case no one noticed Mrs QB hasn't had another public word to say about him leaving the game since skipped OTA's, in fact she has made some supportive comments. Brady is still playing at a time when most family guys with even a single ring would have walked away, the homefront matters too.

So they are bypassing the fall guy seminar and going straight into the how to not be a scumbag seminar. Brilliant.

Seems like a good idea as long as the coach himself isn't an *******. The bad news is I have a feeling anyone who would proclaim themselves an expert on "character" is a sanctimonious douchebag. Perhaps this is just a classic PR specialist.

Read the article from patriots.com, it’s pretty clear afterwards which it is.

Adam is right.

I read both articles and that is not his point of view. As someone stated "Character Coach" is a euphemism for team chaplain.

I know that this has nothing to do with the NFL but I can remember the chaplain being very popular during Army boot camp. The gentleman that was assigned to my unit was a trained Methodist minister however he needs to be prepared to serve people from other faiths including none at all. He needs to be a good listener.

I'm not a religious person. I have read about Jack before, and he seems like a very nice person who is informed by religion, not someone who is selling anything. He gives people hugs, makes them feel good about themselves, builds them up. There should be more people like him, and he was a great hire. He played a big role for the Chiefs after the awful incident with Jovan Belcher.

Guerrero wears the pants in that family

By day, Father Jack is the spirit counselor for men that play games.

By night, Jack goes undercover......manipulating his way into:

Off-the-books crash pads
Synthetic weed drug dens
PEDs dispensing "clinics" near Gillette

Cleaning up Foxboro one scumbag at a time
