Somebody said the Chiefs and Saints secondary receiving personnel are about equal. I really disagree as a Saints fan. Drew has Mike Thomas and that's it. Yes, he throws to Kamara a lot, but a lot of those are dump off passes. Kamara is rarely the primary read and he only plays half the snaps anyway.

Now, Ted Ginn came back this week and that helps. But he's been out for almost the entire season. Other than that it's been Tre'Quan Smith, Keith Kirkwood, Austin Carr. And at TE, Ben Watson, Josh Hill, Dan Arnold.

Of those guys, Smith has draft pedigree and good tools but he's raw and a guy they wanted to be their #4/5 WR this year. Kirkwood and Carr are practice squad level talents. Either one or both could be good someday but right now they're just guys that are in over their head but got forced into action anyway. Watson is old and it shows at the most inopportune moments. Hill is an athlete who can block but will never be more than a #2 TE and Arnold can't catch a contested pass to save his life.

I honestly don't think Brees has had less to work with on offense since his first year with the Saints in 2006.

Considering the way he's helped turn around Chicago's defense, I would say it's Mack. But if it's between the two, you have to go with Mahomes.

Yes I was thinking of Mack, thank you. Someone here used them both in a response and I (easily) got confused.

Merry Christmas

That someone was me. Merry belated Christmas!

I'll go with Mahomes. Has needed to carry the offense as the defense is putrid.

Lol @ all the people disagreeing with my post

Educate yourselves

I voted Mahomes. I think he's fun to watch. Brees would be deserving too, but I just like Mahomes better and after all, this is something of a popularity contest.

Mahomes...he has been incredible...

Right this moment....

Mahomes: 66.4%, 4,816 yds, 9.5 y/a, 48 td, 11 int, 114.0 rating
Brees: 74.4%, 3,992 yds, 8.2 y/a, 32 td, 5 int, 115.7 rating

KC is 11-4. NO is 13-2. I think Mahomes has been better, but amazingly, Brees' passer rating is better. It's the completion percentage and just 5 interceptions that stand out for Brees. Mahomes is a bigger playmaker though.

If I had to vote, right now, I'd give it to Mahomes, but Brees has had a great year.

too busy "educating" myself to make a decision right now...give me a few weeks to get my "Rocket Roger Message Board Warrior" exams finished after which I'll render my decision forthwith...

Mahomes

He’s led a horrible defense to the (probable) 1 seed

ll make my official pick when the all pro team is released

Current vote count: Mahomes 53, Brees 52.

Wow.

On the merits I think you give it to Mahomes. The offense is the entire team, and the offense is amazing because of him. With the same pieces but Alex Smith at QB it was just OK (except when it came to beating the Patriots in early regular season games for no good reason lol.) I think the only legit counter-argument is that you're afraid he's just a flash in the pan gimmick guy, like some kind of supercharged RG3. But I don't think that's true.

If Brees gets it it's a "lifetime achievement" sort of thing, or maybe if Mahomes has an INCREDIBLY bad end of the season somehow.

It would be great if Mahomes threw for 5 ints and handed the Pats the #1 seed

Despite ESPN being garbage, it’s a good predictive index that 8 of 9 voters picked Mahomes over Brees for MVP. Unless Mahomes craps the bed on Sunday, I think that indicates he’s a clear favorite since most of those sportswriters think the same way. Mahomes at -150 seems like a great bet in Vegas. I don’t bet, but I told a bunch of people to take Mahomes at +1500 after week 3. Maybe I should start betting.

I don't even mind if Mahomes gets the MVP because he deserves it. But it's kind of funny that Brees has a 32/5 season and it gets a "meh" - mostly because people are used to him throwing near 5,000 and 40 TD's, but yet he's somehow never won the MVP. It's like, this guy just can't win. But yeah, Mahomes deserves it.

I think Mahomes iced the MVP yesterday. Sportsbooks were moving steadily throughout the week and Mahomes was around -200 before yesterday's game. I saw one tweet but could tell if the date was before yesterday or after the Chiefs game that Mahomes -333. All the sports writers seem to be in consensus that a 50 TD, 5,000 yard season while leading your team to the #1 seed will overcome the sentiment (and very strong season) for Brees.

I like Brees & wouldn’t mind him receiving his first MVP, but it’s Mahomes & it ain’t close. We all know his stats, but he has NO defense.

If not for their respective Wild card standings, Luck & Wilson would be my Dark Horses for MVP.
